Eleven Contracts Approved and Finalized for Alabama Football Coaching Staff

The University of Alabama Board of Trustees approved 11 contracts for Nick Saban's 2023-24 coaching staff.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Board of Trustees met on Monday afternoon to discuss and approve the contracts of 11 football staff members — including three new hires.

The biggest names on the agenda were new offensive and defensive coordinators Tommy Rees and Kevin Steele.

Rees and Steele were both approved of three-year contracts of an annual value of $1.9 million. Rees' contract has an annual increase of $100,000 per year.

New inside linebackers coach Robert Bala was approved of a two-year, $700,000 contract going through Feb. 28, 2025.

Other coaches that were extended include David Ballou (Strength and Conditioning), Joe Cox (Tight Ends), Robert Gillespie (Running Backs), Coleman Hutzler (Special Teams Coordinator/Outside Linebackers), Freddie Roach (Defensive Line), Bob Welton (Director of Player Personnel), Holmon Wiggins (Assistant Head Coach of Offense / Wide Receivers) and Eric Wolford (Offensive Line).

Cox and Hutzler received $100,000 raises. Gillespie earned a $60,000 pay increase. Roach, Wiggins and Wolford all had their yearly pay increased by $25,000 per year.

Three UAB new football coaches were approved for contracts as well. Head coach Trent Dilfer is set to make $1.3 million per year over the next six years. New Blazers' defensive coordinator Sione Ta'ufo'ou will earn $225,000 for the next three years. Dilfer's offensive coordinator, Alexander Mortensen, was approved of a three-year contract worth $225,000 annually. His pay increased to $325,000 on March 1, 2023.

There were no objections of any items on the March 13 agenda — all items were approved and finalized.
