After entering the transfer portal earlier this week, former Alabama guard Nimari Burnett has committed to Michigan and head coach Juwan Howard.

Burnett averaged 5.6 points per game last season and made nine starts in 27 games played on Alabama's SEC champion and Sweet 16 squad.

Out of high school, Burnett was a high 4-star recruit and McDonald's All-American and originally committed to Texas Tech. After leaving Texas Tech in January of the 2020-21 season, Burnett transferred to Alabama, who recruited him heavily out of high school.

Burnett's first year in Tuscaloosa was the 2021-22 season, which he missed the entirety of due to a torn ACL. Burnett started Alabama's first nine games in 2022-23, but a wrist injury held him out from mid-December to mid-January.

When he came back from injury, he did not start another game and saw his role substantially decreased, including logging a DNP in the SEC Championship. Burnett's best game came in an 18-point performance against Jacksonville State in November that saw him shoot 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.

For the season, Burnett made just over 32 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Burnett joins a Michigan team that recently went 18-16 and missed the NCAA Tournament, but has seen recent success under Howard, making the Elite Eight in 2021.

"It was actually a very tough decision. I don’t want to leave this place and I don’t want to leave, you know, what I built and what this team built over this past year," Burnett said during a Wednesday interview with The Next Round Live.

Burnett already used his one-time free transfer coming from Texas Tech to Alabama, so he will either need to graduate or obtain a waiver from the NCAA to be immediately eligible next season.
