Less than a week removed from the firing of former head coach Brad Bohannon, the Alabama baseball team picked up its third win in four games on Tuesday night. For the second time in 2023, the Crimson Tide (33-16, 11-13 SEC) defeated the in-state Troy Trojans- this time at Riverwalk Stadium, the home of the Montgomery Biscuits.

The 7-2 victory was bolstered by strong pitching throughout. Hunter Furtado turned in one of his best outings in an Alabama uniform in a spot start, tossing 3.2 innings of two-hit ball with seven strikeouts and just one earned run. The three pitchers who came in after him gave up just two hits between them. The pitching staff amassed 13 punchouts.

The Crimson Tide offense had 11 hits in 33 at-bats, scoring first in the fourth then taking the lead with a two-run fifth. After a weather delay, Alabama added three more in the sixth inning. First baseman Drew Williamson punctuated the scoring with a home run in the seventh.

Second baseman Ed Johnson scored two runs, while Jim Jarvis, Andrew Pinckney, Bryce Eblin and Williamson each had one. Alabama took the lead when Pinckney scored following a slew of errors when he stole second. Eblin singled Johnson home in the fourth, also aided by an error, to get the Crimson Tide on the board. Left fielder Tommy Seidl tied the game with a sacrifice fly that brought Jarvis home just prior to Pinckney's score an inning later.

Two of the Trojans' runs were unearned. Matt Mercer, the second pitcher into the game after starter Noah Manning, was tagged with the loss. Aidan Moza got the win for Alabama after 2.1 innings and just one hit, moving his season mark to 2-1.

"It was a really complete effort overall," said interim head coach Jason Jackson. "We had to do a good job of staying focused, with the delay to start and then another delay in the game... [The pitchers'] effort gave our offense a chance to get going."

The game was the final contest in the midweek slate for the 2023 season. The Crimson Tide improved in that category, which was a blemish on its 2022 record, by losing just once in midweek games this spring.
