No. 20 Alabama Baseball Routs Jacksonville State 17-3
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama bats were already hot, but the Crimson Tide just took it to another level in a 17-3 thrashing of Jacksonville State.
Brad Bohannon's squad combined for 16 hits against the Gamecocks to score seven runs in the second inning and six runs in the fourth inning.
There was only one Alabama home run, but it was a big one: a grand slam by sophomore Camden Hayslip.
In the bottom of the second inning, Ed Johnson and Dom Tamez kicked things off with a single and a walk. That's when Jim Jarvis hit an RBI-single to to bring Johnson home for the first run.
After Caden Rose was walked to load the bases, Bryce Eblin hit a two-run single to make the score 3-0 Alabama. Colby Shelton immediately followed that by hitting a double that drove in Rose.
Will Hodo came in to pinch-hit and it looked like it would be the second out. but an error by the second baseman allowed Hodo to reach first base safely and two more runs to come across the plate.
Hodo would advance to second after Andrew Pinckney was thrown out by the third baseman, but before Jacksonville State could get out of the inning, Drew Williamson drove him home for the seventh and final run of the frame.
Alabama was able to add three more runs in the bottom of the third, and things were already looking bad for the Gamecocks. But after the Tide loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth, Eblin hit a double to deep right field to bring in two more runs.
The Tide loaded the bases once again after Hodo was walked, setting up Hayslip for the biggest hit of the night.
Alabama scored one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning, tying the record most runs against Jacksonville State and setting a new season-high in runs scored.
With the win, Alabama improved to 9-0, and the home stretch will continue with a weekend series against the University of Illinois Chicago.
