Major League Baseball is coming to Alabama next summer in the form of the 2024 'Field of Dreams' game. According to reports from the San Fransisco Chronicle, the San Fransisco Giants have been selected to play against the St. Louis Cardinals next summer at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham.

Rickwood Field opened in 1910 and was the home to the Birmingham Black Barons, the Negro League club which Giants legend Willie Mays made his professional debut. Subsequently it is the only remaining big-league ballpark standing where Mays played.

The original two iterations of the 'Field of Dreams' game were played in Dyersville, Iowa, at the sight of the famous film starring Kevin Costner. Due to construction at the site, there is no event scheduled this season.

Rickwood Field currently plays home to Miles College baseball program and has been used frequently in Hollywood, serving as the set for scenes in movies such as 42, Cobb and Soul of the Game.

The stadium holds 10,800 and has seen some of the greatest players in baseball history. Hall of Famers such as Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and "Shoeless" Joe Jackson competed in Birmingham throughout the years.

Next summer more Major League Baseball players get to add their names to the legends who have competed at Rickwood Field.
