Bama in the NFL: Crimson Tide Stars Lift Lions

Crimson Tide players scored two touchdowns for the Detroit Lions as they completed their comeback over the Chicago Bears to advance to 8-2.

NFL Week 11 Recap:

  • Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins remained unbeaten at home, 5-0, with a 20-13 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Tagovailoa threw for 325 yards, his fifth 300-yard passing game of the season, and two touchdowns. Jaylen Waddle was the second-leading receiver on the Dolphins with four catches for 55 yards. Miami will face a division rival, the Jets, on Black Friday and could extend their lead in the AFC East.
  • Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers were beaten handily by the Dallas Cowboys 33-10. Young was sacked seven times, signaling that the offensive line problem has not been figured out. The lack of playmakers hasn't helped, either. He threw for 123 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Young and the Panthers are now guaranteed a losing season, their sixth consecutive.
  • The Detroit Lions rallied from a late 12-point deficit to secure a 31-26 win over the Chicago Bears. Jahmyr Gibbs had 39 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown, and 59 receiving yards for the Lions in the win. Another Crimson Tide player scored on offense, with Jameson Williams hauling in two passes for 44 yards and a touchdown. For the first time since the 1960s, the Lions are 8-2 heading into Thanksgiving with a division game against the Packers coming up on Thursday.
  • The Denver Broncos completed the comeback against the Minnesota Vikings, winning a 21-20 thriller in Mile High. Jerry Jeudy helped the Broncos offensively with 58 receiving yards, while safety Kareem Jackson returned from suspension and laid a couple of heavy hits on the Vikings. Jackson had nine tackles on the night, while cornerback Patrick Surtain II had four tackles and one pass defended in the win.
  • Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs on Monday night. Hurts has a chance to get revenge for the Eagles Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs in February.

Week 11 Preview

  • Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers are having a tough season. On top of the quarterback playing like a rookie, the Panthers have been struggling offensively in all facets. Carolina avoided going winless this season, getting a win over the Houston Texans in Week 8. It faces a tough test this week, the Dallas Cowboys, one of the top teams in the NFC. The Panthers will have to play at the top of their game if they hope to win.
  • Minkah Fitzpatrick has missed the past couple of games for the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a lingering hamstring injury and has not practiced yet this week, which doesn't bode well for his chances to suit up against the division-rival Cleveland Browns. Staying in Pittsburgh's secondary, cornerback Levi Wallace (foot) will be available, but lost the starting role to rookie Joey Porter Jr. Expect running back Najee Harris to have difficulty getting going against the tough Browns defense. Pittsburgh won't be completely hopeless, though, as Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury. Wide receiver Amari Cooper is still the top target for Cleveland and will look to provide a big-play threat for new starter Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
  • The Detroit Lions will try to extend their lead in the NFC North with a division game against the Chicago Bears. Safety Brian Branch is one of the top rookie defensive players in the NFL and is providing an anchor point for the Lions as a starter with 37 tackles and four passes defended. Offensively, Jahmyr Gibbs is a workhorse for Detroit. He is the second-leading rusher for the Lions in both yards (476) and touchdowns (four). Jameson Williams has struggled to get going for Detroit as their fourth wide receiver, but his game-changing speed still keeps defenses honest in the secondary.
  • The Miami Dolphins and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa are in the thick of the AFC playoff race and could capitalize on a losing performance by the Buffalo Bills and extend their lead in the AFC East with a win over Las Vegas. The Raiders are not a pushover, with interim head coach Antonio Pearce leading the team to a 2-0 record since he took over. If Tagovailoa hopes to cement himself as an MVP candidate and the Dolphins as Super Bowl contenders, it starts with a strong showing on Sunday.
  • Jalen Hurts gets his chance at revenge from last year's Super Bowl when Kansas City hosts Philadelphia on Monday. The Chiefs beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, so the emotional wound is still fresh in the minds of Philadelphia. Hurts' phone lock screen is a picture of him walking off the field after the Eagles lost in the title game, a motivating factor he also used during his time with Alabama after it lost to Clemson in the National Championship Game. Hurts is not the only Crimson Tide member seeking revenge, with DeVonta Smith, Landon Dickerson, and Josh Jobe all searching for redemption after the Eagles lost last season. Philadelphia newcomers Julio Jones and Eli Ricks hope to help them overcome the reigning Super Bowl champions. Could this be a preview of a Super Bowl rematch?
