Bama in the NFL, Week 14: Eagles Skid Continues, Jets Veterans Top Texans Rookies

The Eagles lose the NFC East showdown, and the Jets get a much-needed win at home.

NFL Week 14 Preview

  • The Detroit Lions suffered another setback with a loss to the Chicago Bears. Detroit could've strengthened it's hold on the NFC North with a win, but now the Lions leave the door open for the Packers if they win on Monday against the Giants. Jahmyr Gibbs led the team in rushing with 66 yards and a touchdown. Brian Branch had three tackles, and Isaiah Buggs had two. Detroit has a home game next week, then a tough two-game road trip could create some chaos down the stretch in the NFC North.
  • Bryce Young and the Panthers continued their offensive struggles, losing to the Saints 28-6. Young finished the game with zero turnovers though, passing for 137 yards and rushing for an additional 40. The Panthers are seeing flashes from Young, but the offense around him is struggling as a whole and isn't allowing the rookie to develop properly. Carolina returns home next week to host the Falcons.
  • The New York Jets got a huge win, with Crimson Tide veterans getting the better of the rookies. C.J. Mosley had four total tackles and a pass defended while Quinnen Williams had three tackles, one tackle for loss, and a sack. Williams also had two QB hits. For Houston, Christian Harris led the team in tackles with 10. Henry To'oTo'o and Will Anderson didn't record any tackles, but got to the quarterback a few times.
  • The Philadelphia Eagles dropped their second straight, this one a 30-13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Jalen Hurts passed for 197 yards and rushed for 30, but also had a fumble. DeVonta Smith was the second-leading receiver with 73 yards but also had the game-sealing fumble. Defensively, Eli Ricks had one tackle. The Eagles' schedule has been brutal, but gets easier down the stretch, so hey still have a chance to win the division if they win out. However, they lost the ability to control their own destiny for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
  • The Miami Dolphins take on the Tennessee Titans on Monday night. The Dolphins are the number two seed in the AFC but could reclaim the number one seed with a win.

Bama in the NFL Week 14 Stats

NFL Week 14 Preview

  • The Detroit Lions have found their rhythm in getting Crimson Tide players the ball. Jameson Williams showed last week that he still has blazing speed, taking a double reverse 19 yards to the endzone, and Jahmyr Gibbs has become a safety net for quarterback Jared Goff while competing with David Montgomery for the team's lead in rushing yards. Defensively, Brian Branch is one of the best rookies this season, with the fourth-best odds currently to win Defensive Rookie of the Year. The Lions will face a divisional opponent this week in the Chicago Bears while they try to extend their lead in the NFC North.
  • Crimson Tide fans in the southeast have a chance to see Bryce Young and the Panthers this weekend with the Panthers heading to New Orleans to take on the Saints. While the Panthers have the worst record in the NFL and fired their head coach, Young has begun to take steps in the right direction and Carolina has been in much closer games recently. The Panthers have a chance to get their second win of the season in New Orleans with a Saints team that is struggling and could be down to their backup quarterback.
  • The Texans and Jets are two teams that have had different seasons than their preseason projections. The Jets lost their starting quarterback four snaps into the season, while the Texans rookie is playing like a veteran MVP. Both teams feature Crimson Tide defenders, with the veterans on the Jets and the rookies on the Texans. For the Jets, Quinnen Williams and C.J. Mosley will head the front seven. Mosley is the leading tackler on the team with 119, while Williams has been an anchor for the defensive line all season. For the Texans, Will Anderson has been a force as an edge rusher with 42 tackles, five sacks, and eight tackles for loss. Henry To'oTo'o and Christian Harris have both been sure tacklers for Houston as the second and third leading tacklers. Harris has 59 while To'oTo'o is one behind him with 58.
  • The Philadelphia Eagles were humbled last week after the San Francisco 49ers walked into Philadelphia and won 42-19. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts left the game briefly with an injury but returned midway through the fourth quarter. The Eagles have a tough task ahead of them, with their rebound game coming in Dallas against the Cowboys for a chance at the lead in the division. The Eagles will rely on DeVonta Smith, who has resurged in the last couple of weeks.
  • The Miami Dolphins are tied for the best record in the AFC and are in contention for the top seed in the division, which would give them home-field advantage and a bye in the first round of the NFL playoffs. Tagovailoa is a candidate for MVP and could boost his campaign with a solid performance in Miami against the Tennessee Titans.
