Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams among four other NFL players have been suspended for violating the NFL's gambling policy, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The other players are fellow Lions wide receivers Quintez Cephus, Stanley Berryhill, Detroit safety C.J. Moore and Washington Commanders pass rusher Shaka Toney. Cephus and Moore have been released following the announcement and Williams and Berry have been suspended for the first six games of the regular season.

It's critical to report that Williams' violation was due to the location that the online bet was placed in, not for betting on football, per Alliance Sports, Williams' agency. Players are allowed to place bets on non-NFL games.

Alliance Sports will continue to support Williams.

"Jameson would never intentionally jeopardize the integrity of the game he loves so much and looks forward to getting back to his team as soon as possible"

Lions general manager Brad Holmes is hoping to work with Williams and Berryhill on the matter, per NFL.com

"We are disappointed by the decision making demonstrated by Stanley and Jameson and will work with both players to ensure they understand the severity of these violations and have clarity on the league rules moving forward."

The Crimson Tide product was drafted 12th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, despite tearing his ACL in the CFB National Championship a few months before. The 22-year-old played in six games last season.
