23 Things I Noticed During Alabama's 24-21 Victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks

In this story:
The Crimson Tide remained undefeated by winning this past Saturday, however there are a multitude of errors and mistakes to clean up from the 24-21 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Join me as I rewatch the game and point out observations from things that Alabama did well, ways the Arkansas Razorbacks challenged them and areas the Crimson Tide must improve on as the season continues.
1. Fortunate First Stop
Our first clip includes the first three plays for the Razorbacks. The initial thing we notice is Terrion Arnold playing "STAR" in place of Malachi Moore, although a little further off the ball than Moore tends to.
- Snap 1 - Caleb Downs flies to the ball and makes a sure tackle.
- Snap 2 - Tim Smith fights through the face of the backside guard trying to seal him off and makes the initial hit, excellent fight and work by Smith
- Snap 3 - The Crimson Tide gets lucky here as this should have been a Razorback first down. Alabama is dropping eight into a zone coverage and Arkansas is running a mesh concept underneath. Tyrone Broden finds himself in empty space but can't make the catch. Both Trezmen Marshall and Downs step toward Ty Washington, leaving Broden open, but fortunately for the Tide the pass is incomplete, leading to a punt.
2. Bama responds with three-and-out.
The Alabama offense starts as it usually has this season, with a three-and-out offensively. The offensive line play is not good from the very beginning, but they're not the only unit at fault.
- Snap 1 - The Tide calls an RPO that looks like zone-read from the run standpoint. Arkansas is sending a LB on the snap of the football who ultimately meets and stalemates Kadyn Proctor. The second ILB causes Jase McClellan to hesitate and he's tackled from behind by Landon Jackson.
- Snap 2 - Disaster from the start as the line is sliding right and a fifth rusher is coming from the left. Jaheim Thomas is in the backfield before any receiving option can develop. Milroe tries to make the best of it by tucking and running, but is tripped up before he can escape. Travis Williams two, Tommy Rees zero.
- Snap 3 - Alabama's found itself in an obvious passing down. The Hogs pass rush does a great job of rushing in their lanes, while Jackson pressures Proctor, moving Milroe off his spot. The seven defenders in pass coverage play sound and from the TV copy it doesn't look like anyone's open. Yes Milroe could dump it to McClellan at the top of the screen, but he's likely the last option in the progression. After being moved off his spot, Thomas shows himself to have QB run responsibility and Milroe has no other options, he runs as it's his final resort and gains three yards to bring up a punt. Awful series as the Razorbacks were all over the Alabama gameplan.
3. KJ Jefferson pocket presence leads to Arkansas score.
Alabama comes out in its nickel package again with Terrion Arnold in the "STAR" this series. KJ Jefferson makes a stellar play on third down to advance the Razorbacks into enemy territory and Cam Little finishes off the drive with a 55-yard field goal to give Arkansas an early lead.
- Snap 1 - Jaheim Oatis stuffs his offensive lineman which forces Rashad Dubinion to pause and try to bounce outside, Chris Braswell forces Dubinion back inside. Oatis works around his lineman. Justin Eboigbe is left as the unblocked end, Ty Washington is supposed to be sealing the end. Eboigbe wrong-arms Washington in the best way, throws him back into the play and closes on Dubinion to make the tackle on the backside while Oatis does his job on the front side. Amazing work by Oatis and Eboigbe.
- Snap 2 - The Tide is playing its traditional pattern matching man-scheme and gets a little lucky but also the benefit of a great play by Deontae Lawson. The back gets free to the top of the screen, Trezmen Marshall struggles to fight through the traffic, Lawson saves the play by deflecting the pass.
- Snap 3 - KJ Jefferson displays brilliant pocket presence, stepping up around Dallas Turner's pressure. His pass to Ty Washington is perfectly on the outside shoulder, away from Lawson for a first down. Washington escapes Lawson's grasp for 10 yards after the catch and a big first down.
- Snap 4 - Tim Keenan is a total stud. The Birmingham product comes as the backside defensive end and makes the tackle on Dubinion for a short gain. It looks like Marshall and Lawson could have recognized the play a bit faster, but Keenan's efforts are impressive.
- Snap 5 - Arkansas calls an RPO and Jefferson likely should have handed the ball off. The Hogs offensive line fires off well. Jefferson instead pulls it and get Isaac TeSlaa killed with a pass behind him. In live action Jaylen Key looks like he may have targeted the receiver, but slow it down and its a beautiful strike with his shoulder pad for the incompletion.
- Snap 6 - Chris Braswell gets an amazing jump, is he offsides? Doesn't matter now but the Alabama 2023 Cheetah package is on full display as Quandarrius Robinson shoots the "A gap" and he and Braswell make the tackle for loss on Jefferson to bring up fourth down.
- Snap 7 - Cam Little bombs a 55-yard field goal. This play is included just because he crushed this kick and would have made it from 63-yards.
4. Terrible pass protection from Kadyn Proctor kills a drive.
This series is defined by line-play. The Alabama offensive line wins a few, but the Arkansas line wins when it matters and the Crimson Tide punts again.
- Snap 1 - Jalen Milroe escapes Arkansas pressure as the Hogs bring six rushers for six blockers. Milroe dances down the line of scrimmage and finds Ja'Corey Brooks after pre-snap motion leaves him wide open. Brooks just drops the ball and what could have been a first down or more.
- Snap 2 - Tommy Rees calls his second strong play in a row as a the read-option springs Milroe on a 9-yard run. However, the play is null and void as Malik Benson is undisciplined in his motion, Benson turns up field before the snap of the ball and the Tide incurs a false-start penalty.
- Snap 3 - The Alabama offensive line wins on second-and-15. JC Latham and CJ Dippre win on down blocks, Jaeden Roberts pulls and kicks out but keep your eyes on Tyler Booker. Booker pulls through the hole and slams the play-side backer, better yet, the corner who comes up in run support gets knocked over by his block. The offensive line win puts McClellan into the second level and he picks up the first down.
- Snap 4 - Another offensive line win out of 12-personnel. Dippre and Ouzts handle the defensive end. Kadyn Proctor assists Booker as he works to the linebacker and McClellan hits the hole hard for a gain of five yards. Rees has a nice drive working from a schematic and execution standpoint.
- Snap 5 - Landon Jackson beats Proctor around the edge to sack Milroe. What more can you say? Roberts is beat to the inside too, but Jackson makes the play. The two youngest members of the offensive line get beat and Bama loses four vs. five.
- Snap 6 - Arkansas fakes like they'll bring five rushers, but only three actually rush Milroe on third-and-11. No way to see the pass patterns on the TV cut but Milroe rolls out of a relatively clean pocket in pretty quick fashion. He scrambles but ultimately ends up four yards short and the Tide punts.
5. Another Hogs third down conversion creates points
Poor tackling allows Arkansas to move the football down the field for the second straight drive as they take a 6-0 lead.
- Snap 1 - Alabama is bringing Terrion Arnold off the edge on a blitz from the STAR position. Arkansas OC Dan Enos has the perfect play call already on in this situation, a receiver swing pass right into the blitz. KJ Jefferson gets his pass out over Arnold's outstretched arms and Caleb Downs has to come from his position to make the tackle along with Deontae Lawson 14 yards down the field.
- Snap 2 - Alabama brings Lawson off the edge but Arkansas is running away from the pressure. The Hogs lineman all meet their assignments well and once again Downs has to fill the hole and make the tackle. Not after Rashod Dubinion picks up five yards.
- Snap 3 - Jaheim Oatis is an absolute load to block up front. He shows it on this QB power as he punches his man and sheds the block to take down Jefferson. The Razorbacks quarterback is such a man though, that he still gains three yards.
- Snap 4 - Jefferson finds Andrew Armstrong on a third-and-two conversion and there appears to be heavy confusion on the back end. Tough to tell exactly who may be at fault, but what is easy to see is Armstrong gaining 15 yards after the catch due to lazy tackling by Arnold, Jaylen Key and Downs. This is the play that ultimately leads to points.
- Snap 5 - The Tide gets some of its yardage back by bringing Trezmen Marshall and Deontae Lawson on a stunt. The line slides left and Marshall beats the tackle around the outside and successfully brings Jefferson down.
- Snap 6 - A quick pass out to Isaac TeSlaa could've been stopped for a three yard gain. Instead Arnold dives and misses TeSlaa and he gains eight after being tackled by Lawson.
- Snap 7 - Arkansas is clearly playing for a field goal, but almost gets a first down off a simple handoff. Luckily Lawson is able to fight off his block and with the help of Quandarrius Robinson take down Dubinion short of the line to gain.
- Snap 8 - Cam Little bombs another field goal. This time from 49-yards, but it would have been good from much deeper.
6. Jalen Milroe scores from absolutely nothing.
What has Alabama done on offense in this game? Absolutely nothing to this point. Just before the lighting strike that ends this drive it looked like more nothing from the Tide. Milroe's deep ball ability will keep the Crimson Tide in any game.
- Snap 1- Is this play a designed QB-keeper all the way? Hard to tell if Milroe is reading the end and deciding to keep it or if the play is designed this way. Either way the two inside backers from Arkansas are never fooled and stop the Crimson Tide quarterback for no gain.
- Snap 2 - Alabama's ugly snapping issues continue. It doesn't look like an inaccurate snap, but it certainly seems early as Seth McClaughlin is the only one firing out of his stance. The Tide goes backwards.
- Snap 3 - This is really a special play by Milroe, watch all the angles and piece it together. First Alabama clearly has no momentum whatsoever, take that into consideration. Next Milroe is throwing this bomb to Kobe Prentice right as he makes his break, great anticipation. The Alabama line picks up the Razorbacks twist stunt mostly well, Tyler Booker gets pushed back a bit, but the protection is solid. Arkansas must be kicking themselves in the film room as the safety bites on Amari Niblack's underneath route and lets Prentice go past him. 79-yards and the Tide is on top for the first time in the game.
7. Bama muscles up for a three-and-out.
Dan Enos decides to challenge the Alabama front, and it does not go well. Why didn't the Razorbacks utilize a QB-sneak on 4th-and-inches with their monstrous quarterback?
- Snap 1 - The Arkansas handoff goes for minimal gain thanks to strong fight from Tim Keenan, Jah-Marien Latham and nice run-support from Trey Amos.
- Snap 2 - Tim Smith gets double-teamed at the point of attack, and while Chris Braswell does fight off his block to make the tackle, it's after a 5-yard gain.
- Snap 3 - Enos calls KJ Jefferson's number on a QB-draw and nearly gains the first down. Deontae Lawson sticks his nose right in the hole and causes the Hogs to come up short. Sure, going for it on your own 35-yard line is unconventional and risky, but take the chance with your 247-pound quarterback from a foot away. Instead Sam Pittman calls for a punt.
8. Tush push stretches Alabama's lead.
The Crimson Tide offense finally finds its legs after the lightning bolt got them on the scoreboard in the previous possession. This drive is a beautiful blend of run and pass capped off with what every Alabama supporter wants to see, quarterback under-center at the goal line.
- Snap 1 - Jase McClellan gets things off to a moderate start after Jayden Johnson reads the play well. Nice to see movement from Tyler Booker and Jaeden Roberts pinning his man, Robbie Ouzts gets two and the Tide is off.
- Snap 2 - Jermaine Burton stole the show last week in College Station, may as well give him a bomb and see what he can do. Burton makes the catch over Lorando Johnson and is sure to let him know about it.
- Snap 3 - Nothing fancy on the simple give to McClellan, he's stopped by the unblocked corner filling the hole in run support for just two yards.
- Snap 4 - Check out Burton on the bottom side almost taunting his cornerback pre-snap. The Hogs bring five defenders and Alabama's protection scheme utterly fails. Sure, Elijah Pritchett is beaten with speed around the edge, but who was assigned to block Hudson Clark off the right edge?
- Snap 5 - On third-and-15 it's five vs. five again as the Hogs are blitzing. This time the protection holds up and Milroe is able to find Ja'Corey Brooks for likely his biggest reception of the season. His 24-yard reception on an out route gives the Tide a first down.
- Snap 6 - Tommy Rees shows patience and calls a toss play to Roydell Williams. He beautifully hurdles a defender but lands right into a group of Razorbacks for minimal gain.
- Snap 7 - Williams gets the carry again, but nobody blocks Landon Jackson. Was Amari Niblack confused with his assignment, or was he really supposed to bypass Jackson in favor of blocking no one?
- Snap 8 - On third-and-short Brooks gets the key block to keep the drive alive. McClellan's jump cut gets him through the hole and he gets just enough to give Alabama a first-and-goal.
- Snap 9 - It's back to the ground as Jaeden Roberts blocks down giving McClellan a clear hole to attack. Credit the Arkansas linebackers as they fill it quickly, but McClellan and the Crimson Tide line drive forward to set up the next snap at the two-yard line.
- Snap 10 - The tush push with Jalen Milroe caps off the drive. Everyone loves to see the Tide under center and everyone loves the entire offense pushing the ball across the goal line.
9. Alabama's 2023 Cheetah package is evil.
The Alabama defense has seized momentum as it comes up with the second straight three-and-out. Check out the Cheetah package in full effect on third down for a sack.
- Snap 1 - This looks like a called QB-draw but Alabama is all over it as Trezmen Marshall is being sent off the edge. Marshall benefits from Justin Eboigbe occupying the tackle and makes the stop for minimal gain.
- Snap 2 - Alabama is run blitzing as Marshall flies up the middle and occupies the tailback. KJ Jefferson keeps the ball and tries to make a play but is forced out of bounds by Deontae Lawson and Jaylen Key.
- Snap 3 - Alabama's 2023 Cheetah Package looks like Quandarrius Robinson, Dallas Turner, Chris Braswell, Lawson and either Jah-Marien Latham, Justin Eboigbe or Jaheim Oatis. In this case its Latham as the lineman and he comes away with the sack, splitting the double-team and taking down Jefferson. Oh, and bringing Trey Amos from the corner is just extra rude from defensive coordinator Kevin Steele.
10. The Alabama offense flies down the field for another score.
Three drives in a row now for the Alabama offense end up in the end zone after the first two were pretty putrid. Let's look at what was likely the Tide's best offensive sequence of the day.
- Snap 1 - Tommy Rees opens the series by dialing up a deep shot down the middle of the field to Jalen Hale. The line holds up against just four rushers and Jalen Milroe lets it fly to the open man, his pass is just about a yard too long and while the effort is nice from Hale, he's still unable to haul it in.
- Snap 2 - Jam Miller's juice is on display as he outraces the Razorbacks to the outside for a 5-yard gain, setting up a manageable third down scenario.
- Snap 3 - Milroe stays calm in the pocket and gently slides to his left, giving him plenty of time to keep his eyes downfield. He hits Kobe Prentice right in the breadbasket and the drive continues. Big third down conversion for the Tide and likely the most underrated play on this drive.
- Snap 4 - Jam Miller once again shows his speed on a carry to the outside, this time gaining 15 yards due to his burst and perimeter blocking from Prentice, Amari Niblack and Malik Benson.
- Snap 5 - Arkansas appears to be playing some form of quarters or perhaps just a cover-six with quarter-quarter-half coverage on the back-end. Either way Miller occupying the bottom corner on and Niblack on a post from one side of the formation to the other overwhelms the deep safety and Milroe drops a TD pass into the bucket for six points. The offensive line holds up five vs. five giving Milroe a nice space to make the pass.
11. Third three-and-out for the Alabama defense.
The Crimson Tide defense is in its bag, forcing its third three and out in a row. Here's another fourth-and-short that the Hogs could've gone for, but opted to punt the ball back to Bama.
- Snap 1 - An RPO that KJ Jefferson tries to squeeze into Jaedon Wilson but his pass is a little too far out in front for the completion.
- Snap 2 - Tim Smith holds his gap and Deontae Lawson helps clean up the running play, keeping Arkansas behind schedule.
- Snap 3 - The Hogs call a tunnel screen to Andrew Armstrong who nearly gets the first down. Diving attempts by Jah-Marien Latham and Deontae Lawson are unsuccessful, while Trey Amos is taken for a ride, his defensive back buddies Jaylen Key and Caleb Downs assist him on the stop.
12. Poor pass protection derails Alabama's chance at an end of half dagger.
The Alabama faithful get to see Justice Haynes run the football on this drive, and then get to see what's likely keeping him off the field as he and Elijah Pritchett combine to give us sacks, derailing the Tide's chances at scoring on a fourth consecutive drive.
- Snap 1 - Haynes shows nice vision on this first play, making something out of nothing and saving the Tide from a negative play.
- Snap 2 - Another handoff to Haynes and another glimpse of his special vision and burst through the hole. Amari Niblack "leads" the way through the hole, he could not look any less interested in run-blocking inside the tackle box.
- Snap 3 - The pass protection holds up against four Razorback rushers. Jalen Milroe takes a small step forward in the pocket and dumps an accurate pass to Isaiah Bond. There's no telling what else was open based on the angle on the TV, but you never go broke taking a profit so this is a nice play.
- Snap 4 - Another nice passing play as Milroe finds his buddy Jermaine Burton for a first down. The pass is a little high, but Burton brings it down and the chains stay moving. Also another nice pass protection snap from the Alabama offensive line. Which makes the miscues so discouraging as they are usually unpredictable.
- Snap 5 - Landon Jackson beats Elijah Pritchett and Jaheim Thomas carries Haynes back into Milroe's lap. Did Milroe have a chance to step up and avoid the sack? Perhaps for a slight second but not long enough to fault him.
- Snap 6 - Arkansas brings a safety blitz but it comes from too far away to be effective. Milroe launches a deep shot to Bond but the two can't connect, there looked like a little miscommunication between the quarterback and receiver as to which way the route was going to break off.
- Snap 7 - You're now behind the 8-ball, facing third-and-16 and Jackson beats Pritchett again, this time on an inside pass-rushing move. JC Latham doesn't fare much better against Trajan Jeffcoat and the sack forces Alabama to punt after a decent gain in field position.
13. A good start stalls for the Crimson Tide offense
Alabama comes out of halftime and moves the ball across midfield but stalls with incomplete passes.
- Snap 1 - Jalen Milroe makes a quick, decisive pass to Malik Benson. The pass is a tad high, but the completion gets the Tide moving.
- Snap 2 - Every Alabama lineman wins their assignment with this play and Jase McClellan rushes for a nice gainer and a first down. Check out the whole line getting a hat on a hat and getting movement. I like what Jaeden Roberts has done for Alabama's running game.
- Snap 3 - Almost every lineman wins again, Roberts needs a little help from Robbie Ouzts. Ouzts recognizes it and helps out his block and McClellan slashes again into the second level of the Hogs defense.
- Snap 4 - Milroe's first incompletion of the drive is not the worst throw ever but could be more accurate. He's taking a shot to Jermaine Burton, but leads him too far out of bounds. Burton isn't exactly wide open but he shown he can make plays with the ball in the air.
- Snap 5 - This play looks like a read-option that Milroe may have needed to keep on. Landon Jackson slow plays it and is able to crash down the line on McClellan. Two, not awful plays in a row but two that Rees would like his ream to do better with.
- Snap 6 - The Arkansas line rushes three and Milroe hangs around in the pocket nicely. He climbs the pocket well and delivers a pas to Isaiah Bond but unfortunately he can't hand on as a defender closes in on him, forcing Alabama to punt.
14. The Alabama defense picks up right where it left off in the first half.
The Crimson Tide front seven has really started to impose its will on the Arkansas front and the first drive of the second half is no different as Alabama forces its fourth three-and-out.
- Snap 1 - We love a good QB-counter, but Patrick Kutas doesn't do a great job pulling for the Hogs. He gets caught up helping seal Dallas Turner in and never really makes it to Trezmen Marshall. Marshall does make the play but not until KJ Jefferson is running downhill, making him a hard to stop.
- Snap 2 - Tim Keenan somehow gets a free rush right into the Arkansas backfield on this snap so Jefferson has to get rid of the ball quickly. It's hard to tell if Tim Smith gets a hand to this pass or not, but Kool-Aid McKinstry is there to defend the pass as it reaches Tyrone Broden.
- Tim Keenan wins again, this time against a double-team as the coverage behind him leaves nothing open. Keenan moves off his block and Chris Braswell folds back in to shut down Jefferson and force a punt. Great drive from the former Ramsay Ram.
15. Alabama's best second-half drive stalls out
Alabama's second best drive of the game, and best of the second half unfortunately ends in a field goal as the Tide is unable to finish. Given the final score this drive is massive to the Crimson Tide result. Let's take a look.
- Snap 1 - Jaeden Roberts, Seth McLaughlin and Robbie Ouzts all work nicely together to create a nice, big hole for Roydell Williams. Impressive to see some of the run-blocking really coming together.
- Snap 2 - Roberts pulls and kicks out the end, Ouzts leads the way and both spring Jam Miller for a big gainer on the ground and the Tide is rolling.
- Snap 3 -The offensive line continues to open holes for Williams, but the reason this play goes so well is the exterior blocking of Ja'Corey Brooks. Brooks hasn't gotten a ton of usage this year, but his commitment to blocking is great to see here.
- Snap 4 - Good, old fashioned football as the line continues to get a hat on a hat and move people off the line of scrimmage. Williams rips off another 4-yarder.
- Snap 5 - Roberts gets a decent block, but his man slips off and tackles Williams. The Hueytown product still gains three yards to bring up a third-and-three.
- Snap 6 - First, Tommy Rees. Alabama's been slamming the ball down Arkansas's throat and now on third and short you want to pass? Ok the play-call aside. Jalen Milroe appears to execute this poorly. Why is he leaving a clean pocket? Yes Landon Jackson gets free of Kadyn Proctor but after Milroe dances a bit. It appears as if Kobe Prentice is breaking open in same area that CJ Dippre left, but without the backend copy it's hard to tell. Not a great finish to a really nice drive.
16. Alabama's defense is still on fire.
Alabama's defense is still rocking and rolling, giving no signs of allowing the Razorbacks back into the game. The Tide is successfully pressuring KJ Jefferson and the Hogs go three-and-out, again.
- Snap 1 - Terrion Arnold is sent from his STAR position on a blitz and beats the tight end assigned to tackle him with speed. He wisely goes low on KJ Jefferson to get the sack.
- Snap 2 - Arkansas gains some of its yards back due to good athleticism from AJ Green. Trezmen Marshall takes a bad angle and is outrun to the corner, giving up an 8-yard gain.
- Snap 3 - Arkansas calls a screen to combat the pending pressure, but Quandarrius Robinson sees it all the way and plays smart, assignment football, tackling the tailback in the backfield to force a punt.
17, Where did Jalen Milroe's accuracy go?
Alabama's offense starts to lose its precision after settling for a field goal on the prior drive. Jalen Milroe's mechanics are poor and therefore he misses two receivers that could have advanced the football.
- Snap 1 - It's a play-action pass rolling Milroe out to his right. Isaiah Bond runs a fine route, it's nothing special but he is wide open due to the Arkansas respect for his speed. Milroe appears as if he's falling away from the throw and sails it over Bond's head on what could've been a 15-yard gain.
- Snap 2 - The offensive line meets the Hogs defenders but unfortunately doesn't get too much push up front out of Seth McLaughlin. His defender makes the stop for a 2-yard gain.
- Snap 3 - Arkansas fakes six-man pressure and brings five. The Alabama line does hold up fairly well with six in protection. Milroe makes the right read with Jalen Hale on the middle-field dig route, but his pass sails high making for a much more difficult catch than it should have been and Hale can't come down with it. Two Milroe misses lead to a punt.
18. Penalties lead to Arkansas points.
After dominating throughout the game the Alabama defense has a lapse in focus and intensity. Two penalties and a big quarterback scramble let the Razorbacks back in the ballgame.
- Snap 1 - Arkansas has an illegal motion, setting them back.
- Snap 2 - KJ Jefferson passes out to Isaac TeSlaa for a short gain with Terrion Arnold making a solid tackle getting off his block.
- Snap 3 - Dallas Turner wins his one-on-one matchup against the tackle and forces Jefferson to throw early and the pass falls incomplete, setting up a third-and-long situation.
- Snap 4 - Arguably the most important snap of the game. Arkansas hands it off and gets a short gain, but keep your eye on the receiver at the top engaging with Jaylen Key. The two stay after one another after the whistle and Key is called for a personal foul. Alabama would have been off the field, but the penalty keeps the Hogs moving.
- Snap 5 - Jefferson with a short gain on a QB-keeper. Nothing special for either side.
- Snap 6 - Arkansas calls a WR screen and gets a nice gain. I'd like to see the all-22 copy to see why Kool-Aid McKinstry is bailing out so fast. Dallas Turner has to run down the receiver as this appears to be poorly played.
- Snap 7 - Justin Eboigbe gets his hand up and deflects a Jefferson pass on first down.
- Snap 8 - Coach Saban said in postgame that the stunt was run the wrong way in this play. What is clear is Eboigbe beats the running back to the inside, when he likely should have stayed to the outside in order to contain Jefferson. Deontae Lawson comes up to green-dog but runs himself out of the play and Jaheim Oatis misses Jefferson as well. The result a 22-yard scramble down the field for the Hogs.
- Snap 9 - Arkansas tries to go tempo but Tim Smith crushes the tailback for nearly no gain.
- Snap 10 - Caleb Downs fills the running lane beautifully and is helped by Eboigbe and Lawson in the cleanup to force a third down.
- Snap 11 - Downs gets called for pass interference on third down. He was in nice position but never got his head around and played through the body of the Arkansas receiver. Another free first down on an Alabama mistake.
- Snap 12 - Jefferson finds Isaiah Setenga right in front of Arnold for a touchdown. Credit the Razorbacks for making a play to get into the end zone for the first time on the afternoon.
19. Kadyn Proctor gets beat.
Coach Saban said on Monday that Kadyn Proctor had help on the inside and therefore should not have gotten beat to the outside on this snap. Landon Jackson was a game wrecker for the Hogs. On third down Jalen Milroe launches the ball deep to no one.
20. KJ Jefferson is a full grown man.
The Razorbacks drive and score, putting themselves right back in the game. Miscommunication and a lack of intensity from the Crimson Tide side makes this a tight ball game again.
- Snap 1 - Jaylen Key fires on a safety blitz and makes a tackle for loss. Good start for the Tide that doesn't last long.
- Snap 2 -Trezmen Marshall fails to contain Jefferson on his part of the stunt. Clearly the line stunts right and it's Marshall's job to hold the left edge, Jefferson sees the opening and runs for a first down and then some.
- Snap 3 - Isaac TeSlaa on the swing pass again give the Razorbacks a decent gainer.
- Snap 4 - Alabama plays the run well, but it still gains enough for a first down. Is the Crimson Tide tired?
- Snap 5 - Jefferson with another RPO miss over the middle. Looks like his third one from the same look that he's thrown behind the receiver.
- Snap 6 - Jefferson tosses Terrion Arnold off him "like a gnat off a cow's ass". Remember a series or two earlier where Arnold went low and wrapped him up by the ankles? Well that didn't happen here as he escapes the grasp and makes a completion down the sidelines.
- Snap 7 - Jihaad Campbell fires through the gap and bounces the Razorbacks runner to the outside. Arnold and Key are in their correct gaps and the run goes for a loss.
- Snap 8 - On Second-and-11 Jefferson takes a one-on-one shot play to the end zone that's a little bit high for his receiver.
- Snap 9 - Miscommunication between Deontae Lawson and Trey Amos leads to the Razorbacks touchdown. Arkansas runs a bit of a pick from the outside that Lawson expects Amos to switch with him but doesn't. Lawson can't fight through the traffic and Jefferson finds Dubinion for an easy touchdown pass.
- Snap 10 - The two-point play becomes a test of Kool-Aid McKinstry's physicality, which he fails, diving at Andrew Armstrongs legs. Armstrong reaches over McKinstry for the score.
21. Jalen Milroe misses and drops.
Tensions are certainly rising in Bryant-Denny Stadium and it's on full display on this offensive drive as Milroe misses targets and the Tide goes three-and-out.
- Snap 1 - The Arkansas defensive front wins the first down snap, pushing the Alabama offensive line back into Jase McClellan and coming up with a stop for no gain.
- Snap 2 - Alabama's line responds with nice protection on second down. Milroe hangs in the pocket but misses Isaiah Bond high. Could Bond have brought in the pass? Yes, but Milroe's pass is high due to his poor passing mechanics. Look how his body is square to the line of scrimmage and he slings it with his hand and arm. Unfortunate miss.
- Snap 3 - Arkansas only brings three and Milroe makes a quick decision to throw to Malik Benson. The mechanics are much better a the ball hits Benson in the hands. Unfortunately the JUCO drops the pass. It may have been short of the line to gain anyways, but a completion keeps the clock moving and gives Benson a chance to make a play after the catch. Instead, the Tide punts.
22. Arkansas moves a little, but the Tide makes the crucial stop.
Ok it's put up or shut-up for the Alabama defense that's allowed 15 points on the last two drives. Luckily James Burnip has the Razorbacks pinned back and the Crimson Tide answers the call.
- Snap 1 - An outside run is stopped nicely by Jaylen Key in the backfield, giving the Tide a little momentum to start the drive.
- Snap 2 - Arkansas's running back finds a little hole on the backside for a small positive gain. Unfortunately Trezmen Marshall ends up banged up on the play.
- Snap 3 - On third-and-six the Tide rolls out its Cheetah Package and Arkansas counters by calling a run up the middle. It's successful as Lawson and Latham get blocked. Key misses a tackle and Alabama is so fortunate that Caleb Downs is pursuing as he saves a long touchdown with a tackle.
- Snap 4 - The RPO slant that Jefferson's been trying to hit all day finally is successful and Andrew Armstrong gains nine yards.
- Snap 5 - The Hogs keep the chains moving with a short run off the right hand side.
- Snap 6 - Anticipating Alabama's pressure, Enos calls a screen pass. Tim Keenan reads it all the way and Jefferson has to throw the pass away.
- Snap 7 - Dubinion gets tripped up on his own lineman trying to cut the play back on a handoff. The Alabama defense looks tired, but has a chance to get off the field with a good third down play.
- Snap 8 - With a chance to really seal the game Dallas Turner and Justin Eboigbe run an ET stunt beautifully. Turner gets to Jefferson but slides off and Eboigbe makes the sack, forcing the Hogs to punt and they never get the ball back.
23. Alabama takes the clock and the game.
The Crimson Tide take the final possession and kill the remaining five minutes off the clock, but it certainly wasn't pretty. Alabama incurred two false starts and saved a delay of game by called a timeout. Regardless, the Crimson Tide remained unbeaten in the SEC West as the stretch run of the season is now underway.
- Snap 1 - The Tide musters two yards on first down as the Razorbacks are selling out to stop the run.
- Snap 2 - Jalen Milroe gets the ball out quickly to Jase McClellan. The pass was ugly at best but McClellan makes the most of it and gets upfield efficiently.
- Snap 3 - Alabama calls timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty.
- Snap 4 - Milroe scramble for a first down and makes it by a yard.
- Snap 5 - Alabama is called for a false start. Nick Saban begins to lose his mind.
- Snap 6 - Tyler Booker is blown up and the Razorbacks stuff McClellan after just a 2-yard gain.
- Snap 7 - Seth McLaughlin is whipped up front, putting pressure on Milroe almost immediately. Milroe finds Amari Niblack and completes a very risky pass. Perhaps he could have thrown it earlier and the window was much larger, regardless the Tide earns a much needed first down.
- Snap 8 - Arkansas's run blitz stuffs Roydell Williams after just a 2-yard carry.
- Snap 9 - Tommy Rees calls a toss to McClellan to the field side and Alabama's blockers allow him to get into the second level, bringing up a third-and-short.
- Snap 10 - Alabama goes back to an earlier play (15. Snap 3) and Ja'Corey Brooks once again gets a key block on the front side. McClellan scoots for just enough for a first down.
- Snap 11 - Alabama gets a false start while kneeling it out. Why? Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams have to tell Jermaine Burton to quit talking trash and get lined up. Subsequently McClellan is never set when Milroe takes the knee. Terrible discipline.
- Snap 12 - Alabama kneels.
- Snap 13 - Alabama kneels and the game is over.
