An Alabama defensive back who saw extensive game action during the 2023 season is now set to transfer for the second time in his collegiate career.

Trey Amos, who joined the Crimson Tide last season after starting his career at Louisiana-Lafayette, told On3 of his intentions to hit the transfer portal on Monday night. He played in all 14 games, starting one, and recorded 12 tackles.

He was in line to potentially take over a starter's role as a cornerback in the first season of the Kalen DeBoer era. Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold have both made known their plans to move on to the NFL. Monday's news comes very soon after reports surfaced that the target that had emerged to replace Kevin Steele as defensive coordinator is South Alabama head coach Kane Wommack.

Amos notably played well in the SEC Championship Game last Dec. 2. McKinstry was injured, and Amos was called on to take over for him. The Crimson Tide went on to snap Georgia's 29-game winning streak with a 27-24 victory that sent the team to the final four-team iteration of the College Football Playoff. He logged two pass breakups in the game, stepping in at a huge moment wherein one of the team's best players was forced into concussion protocol.

Where eligibility is concerned, he has one year of it left. He spent three seasons at his previous stop, where his tenure overlapped with that of now-Florida coach and former Alabama receivers coach Billy Napier. In Amos' final game as a member of the Crimson Tide program, he broke up one pass in the Rose Bowl against eventual national champion Michigan. He becomes the latest player to explore options outside Tuscaloosa following Nick Saban's retirement last week.
