2025 4-Star Athlete Commits to Alabama Football

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect out of Southside High School in Selma, Ala. is ranked as the consensus No. 4 athlete in the nation.

The Alabama football team added consensus 4-star athlete Derick Smith to its 2025 class on Monday, per On3 Recruiting.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect out of Southside High School in Selma, Ala. is ranked as the consensus No. 4 athlete in the nation, the No. 4 prospect in the state of Alabama and the No. 57 overall player in the 2025 class.

Smith chose the Crimson Tide over a dozen other schools, including six from the Southeastern Conference. New Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and company must've made a big impact on his decision as he visited Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Feb. 3 for Junior Day.

Smith becomes the fifth member of the Tide's 2025 recruiting class and the fourth that currently owns a 4-star status. He'll be joining running back Anthony Rogers, defensive lineman Antonio Coleman, linebacker Myles Johnson and fellow athlete/running back Zymear Smith, who committed to Alabama just this past Saturday.

He's expected to play either wide receiver or safety for Alabama as he mostly played those positions this past season at Southside. His versatility didn't stop there though as he also logged snaps at linebacker, quarterback and the backfield.

This past season, he recorded 46 receptions for 1,487 yards and 14 touchdowns while also rushing 65 times for 1,036 yards and nine more scores. On the defensive side of the ball, Smith totaled 74 tackles, including 15 for loss, and 11 sacks. Smith was named the Selma Times-Journal Player of the Year and was also tabbed as a MaxPreps Junior All-American second-team selection for his efforts.

After his commitment became official, Smith posted a hype video on X (formerly known as Twitter).
