2025 5-Star Quarterback Chooses SEC Rival Over Alabama

The Crimson Tide continues its search for a quarterback from the 2025 recruiting class.

Consensus 5-star quarterback George MacIntyre committed to Tennessee over Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Michigan on Monday morning.

MacIntyre would've been the first quarterback in the Crimson Tide's 2025 class.

The 6-foot-5.5, 185-pounder out of Brentwood Academy in Nashville, Tenn., is ranked as the top player in the state, the No. 3 quarterback in the nation and the No. 16 overall prospect in the class, per On3 Recruiting.

The Crimson Tide has lost numerous commits from this class due to the retirement of legendary head coach Nick Saban, including consensus 5-star receiver Jaime Ffrench, but MacIntyre is one of the first high-profile players from 2025 to make his premier commitment over Alabama. Nevertheless, Tennessee was always a high possibility for him, as he's a native of the state.

Washington's Kalen DeBoer was hired to replace Saban on Jan. 12 and he's brought numerous former Huskies staff members with him, including offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. Grubb is expected to replace Tommy Rees.

Rees was heavily involved in MacIntyre's recruitment as he extended an offer to the quarterback on Feb. 11, 2023, just eight days after he joined the Crimson Tide staff.

“Coach Rees is an offensive genius that I believe will do great there,” MacIntyre said after he received the premier offer. "The opportunity to play for Coach Saban is very special.”

MacIntyre was re-offered by DeBoer and the new staff on Jan. 15, but to no avail.

MacIntyre's final time seeing the Crimson and White colors before officially joining the Tennessee Orange and Smokey White was when he attended the men's basketball game between the two schools in Knoxville, Tenn. on Jan. 20.
