Even though Alabama softball is still in season with Super Regionals coming up this weekend, a player has entered the transfer portal.

Sophomore Aubrey Barnhart has entered the portal according to multiple sources.

She has not been with the team in the dugout during games since late February. The infielder and catcher appeared in just four games for the Crimson Tide this season with two starts and did not record a hit. The last game she appeared in was a start against Samford on Feb. 22.

The team never issued any sort of official statement about Barnhart's status other than head coach Patrick Murphy saying she was taking a break from softball during a press conference back on Feb. 28.

Barnhart came to Alabama as one of the highest rated players in the class of 2021. She was the No. 3 overall recruit in the Extra Inning Softball class rankings and was the 2020 Gatorade Tennessee State Player of the Year. However, she never settled into a steady spot in the lineup at Alabama.

During her freshman season in 2022, Barnhart appeared in 24 games with 11 starts, hitting .200 with two doubles, seven walks and four RBIs.

With Barnhart now entering the portal, just two of the six players (Kali Heivilin and Jordan Stephens) from Alabama's highly-touted 2021 signing class, remain with the Crimson Tide. Dallis Goodnight, Jenna Lord and Megan Bloodworth entered the portal after the conclusion of the 2022 season. Goodnight transferred to Georgia, Lord to Ole Miss and Bloodworth to Oklahoma State. Lord left Ole Miss in the middle of the season and is back in the transfer portal.

Overall, six players entered the transfer portal from Alabama last summer after the season ended with a loss in Regionals.

But the Crimson Tide isn't quite done yet this season. No. 5 Alabama will host No. 12 Northwestern for Super Regionals beginning this Friday at 7 p.m.
