Montana Fouts Named Softball America's NCAA Pitcher of the Year

For the second time in her career, the Alabama ace earns national pitcher of the year honors.

Her Crimson Tide career may have come to an end, but the honors keep rolling in for Montana Fouts.

The Alabama fifth-year ace was named the 2023 NCAA Pitcher of the Year by Softball America Monday morning. She is the first Alabama player to win the award since it was first given out in 2019.

However, this is not the first time Fouts has won national pitcher of the year honors. She was named the NFCA Pitcher of the Year in 2021. Fouts also won the 2023 Honda Sports Award this season and was named a First Team All-American.

This season, Fouts had the second-lowest ERA of her career while simultaneously throwing the most innings with a 1.51 ERA in 230 innings pitched. She finished with a 25-11 record and 323 strikeouts.

Fouts battled back from a potentially season-ending injury in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals to make three appearances against Northwestern in Super Regionals, leading Alabama back to the Women's College World Series for the third time in her career.

"She has the most competitive spirit I've seen in a pitcher that wears the 'A,'" Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy said about Fouts after the team's final game in Oklahoma City. "I mean, she's come through time and time again."

The ace finished her Alabama career with exactly 100 wins and over 1100 strikeouts.
