ASU's Jason Mohns Pleased With Progress at TE Position

In this story:
TEMPE -- Arizona State TE coach Jason Mohns is now entering his fourth season in the role after parting from a wildly successful career as the head coach of Saguaro H.S. (Scottsdale, AZ) - he has built up quite the track record in the years since.
Mohns is set to send two former players (Cameron Harpole, Chamon Metayer) to the professional ranks and now appears poised to lead a unit that is as deep as it has been in years on paper. The vaulted positions coach spoke to the media following Tuesday's practice about the growth of players on the roster, making a pitch for Metayer to NFL teams, and more.

While nothing was outright confirmed on Tuesday, it appeared as if Mohns showed special favor towards senior Khamari Anderson and redshirt freshman AJ Ia, essentially revealing that both hold a high level of trust from the coaching staff.
Ia appeared sparingly in the 2025 season, but the former four-star recruit jumped off the page during fall practices in the gear-up towards the 12-game slate. Now, the 6'6" athlete is in a strong position to take over as the starting player, but will continue to need to fight for the role in the months ahead.

Anderson is returning for a second season in Tempe after transferring from Kentucky in the aftermath of the 2024 season. The Detroit native was another player who was seen by the consensus as having a standout fall camp, but he unfortunately fell behind Metayer and Harpole in the end.
Kristian Ingman and Anthony Miller are intriguing additions to the room in their own right. The former is making the jump from FCS Portland State to Arizona State and showed the ability to be a vertical receiving threat in spurts last season, while the latter played roughly 400 snaps for a College Football Playoff squad in Tulane.

The final three players that are rounding out the room include James Giggey, who has been a pleasant surprise during spring despite missing Tuesday's practice. Freshman Landen Miree is a freshman who hails from Ohio and has displayed immense potential as both a blocker and receiver, while Hayden Vercher will not join the program until the summer.
All in all, Mohns has been an incredible cultivator of talent and remains well-positioned to be an effective recruiter moving forward.
