If Nothing Else KJ Has Picked Up a Lot with Razorbacks

In this story:
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — One thing Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson has done in his five seasons is apparently retain everything he's learned from a variety of offensive coordinators. It even impressed his third one, Dan Enos, who talked a lot of about that with the media Thursday morning.
"This guy’s a unique player and a unique person," Enos said in comparison to all the quarterbacks he's coached into the NFL. "The last thing is just tremendous functional intelligence. The ability to take things from the classroom and then functionally have that translate to the field. KJ has that, as well."
KJ has had a lot of experience. The coaching staff his freshman year threw him to the wolves. He benefited a lot from Feleipe Franks for a year in 2020 before being handed the starting job in the last game of the year. He had a go-to guy in Treylon Burks that was able help him get out of a lot of tight spots for a year and got nine wins before a so-so year last season.
Now he's the leader of the team in what is, in all probability, his final one. Everybody has a hope he's off to the NFL and Enos has a track record of putting guys there. Jefferson has gotten his attention in the spring and fall camp.
"There’s also some common characteristics all the great ones have," Enos said. "The first one is they’ve got mental toughness and they’ve got physical toughness. KJ has that." Considering the shock he probably got as a freshman being one of a revolving door of quarterbacks and getting knocked out at one time. Yeah, 2019 was that bad for the entire team.
"KJ’s a guy that can do a lot of different things," Enos said. "He could be a true drop-back passer and be very, very good at it. He has great eyes, anticipation, great arm talent. But man, this guy is a big, really, really natural runner. He’s got great vision. He sets up blocks. He’s a tremendous athlete. We’re going to find a nice, good balance between letting him do the things he can do with his arm, and also, I’ll obviously rely on him to do the things with his legs. At the end of the day, to make us the most efficient offense we can be to help our football team win."
Enos also tries to learn from his quarterbacks. That's part of his success because he gets to know the quarterbacks. He's seen Jefferson's physical ability and that's something everybody picks up on pretty quick, but Enos is getting educated as well. "I’ve already learned a bunch from him," Enos said.
