Takeaways: Auburn baseball drops game three, gets swept by Texas A&M

Auburn got swept for the second time in conference play. What are the main things to take away from the final game of the series?

The No. 21 Auburn Tigers lost 10-9 to the No. 4 Texas A&M Aggies in the final game of the series, finalizing the second time the Tigers have been sweept this season.

Auburn got on the board first but Texas A&M quickly took control. Auburn rallied in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game up. The Aggies pulled out in front again, but the Tigers ended up getting the game to extra innings. An RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning allowed the Aggies to finish off the sweep.

What are the biggest things to take away from the game?

Joseph Gonzalez had another rough start

The junior right-hander who was expected to be Auburn's ace this season has struggled to find his footing so far.

Gonzalez pitched 2.2 innings in which he allowed five runs (only three of them earned) off of five hits and walked two batters while only striking out one.

There is still a lot of baseball to be played and Gonzalez could get things rolling soon, but the first part of the season has been one that he would like to put behind him.

Auburn is now 16-11 on the season and 1-8 in SEC play.

Auburn showed grit

This series was going poorly for Auburn and it was very close to getting swept, but the Tigers mounted a comeback and got the game to extra innings.

The Tigers could have simply phoned it in, but they managed to grind out a comeback and make the game as competitive as possible.

If a team can maintain focus despite the circumstances and keep competing, that shows how much fight that team has inside of it. Auburn showed that it has fight inside of it tonight.

Auburn ran out of pitching

Eight different pitchers worked for Auburn tonight and five of them worked for less than two innings.

Gonzalez' 2.2 innings was the longest an Auburn pitcher stayed in the game tonight.

Auburn's bullpen kept the train on the rails for as long as it could, but it ended up running out of steam.

What's Next?

The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on the UAB Blazers at Regions Field in Birmingham at 6 p.m. CT. The Auburn Sports Network broadcast can be heard anywhere on the Auburn Atlanta app.
