Auburn veteran gives praise to true freshman

Auburn football's 2024 class continues to impress.

Auburn football will need some impact from the 2024 class this season.

Some of that impact will come from freshman star wide receiver Cam Coleman but other names that the Tigers will need to step up can be found on the defensive line. Hugh Freeze's first full class at Auburn featured several standouts on the defensive front.

Malik Blocton is one of the young defenders who is making a case to be in the rotation this season. After seeing him crack the rotation with the starting defense during A-Day this past weekend, expectations continue to rise for the former Pike Road recruit. Auburn defensive lineman Jayson Jones had kind words for Blocton when he appeared on the Locked On Auburn podcast.

"I think they've grown a lot," Jones said when asked about the young guys on the defensive line. "I know I can speak for Malik. He learned that this isn't high school anymore pretty fast. The things you did in high school aren't going to work here. You know what I'm saying? He's learned to strike better, stay low, do different things. This is only spring ball, imagine what he's going to do during the season or in fall camp when he has a whole summer under his belt. That's the good thing about early enrolling so you have that experience going into the season."

In the 2024 class, Blocton is joined by fellow defensive linemen Amaris Williams and TJ Lindsey. On the edge, Auburn may need to see more reps from Joe Phillips and Jamonta Waller as well this season.

Freeze pointed out after the A-Day game that they needed more guys on the defensive line, hinting that Auburn may pursue some guys out of the transfer portal at the position.
