Transfer center Micah Handlogten has put Auburn in his top eight

Auburn is in the running for seven-footer Micah Handlogten.

Auburn is going after former Marshall center Micah Handlogten from Huntersville, North Carolina.

Handlogten is a seven-foot-one center who averaged 7.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals a game a season ago for the Herd.

These numbers led to him being selected Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year.

He recently released a list of his top eight schools, including Auburn, NC State, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, Virginia, and Arkansas.

It's going to be a heavy SEC battle for the seven-footer.

After watching Handlogten's tape from his freshman year at Marshall, it's clear why so many big-time schools are after him.

He finishes around the rim well via dunks and layups. He has some impressive post-up moves that help him score. Handlogten is even a good distributor of the basketball, which is something you love to see in a taller center.

The most exciting thing about his game is his shot-blocking ability. It's become a tradition now that if you are a big man transferring to Auburn, you have to be able to block shots, and Handlogten fits that narrative.

The biggest question regarding Handlogten's and the coaching staff's mutual interest is how he would fit in with this basketball team and is this a sign of more people departing from the program.

Assuming Johni Broome, Dylan Cardwell, and Jaylin Williams are all back, you have to wonder where Handlogten would fit in with these forwards.

Perhaps he would take over the backup center role over Cardwell. Or maybe they could move Broome to the four and Williams to the three, with Handlogten and Cardwell playing the five. This would be a massive lineup.

Handlogten is not the first big man the coaching staff has contacted in the portal, so it makes you wonder how this roster will shake out when everything is said and done.

Regardless Handlegton is a good player and would be a great addition to this basketball team. He is beginning to take visits, so we will add updates on his status as they come.
