Auburn figures to have a strong day 2 in NFL Draft

Bigsby and Hall should hear their names called soon!

The NFL Draft completed Round 1 yesterday, and was full of surprises (Texans picking 2 AND 3?? Gibbs to the Lions at 12??) and slides (Joey Porter Jr? Will Levis?!) and we're far from done. Derick Hall was a late first round prospect, so he figures to be a steal for someone in the second round.

Where could he and Tank go? Could Colby Wooden slide into round 3? Let's take a look.

ROUND 2

Derick Hall - Pick 39, Carolina Panthers

Carolina's got the prized QB of this class, taking Alabama's Bryce Young at #1 overall. Wide receiver could easily be the call here so the new signal caller has some weapons, but sources in the draft building last night all indicated Carolina wanted to trade up for an edge rusher. They might not have to make a move to get a quality pass rusher, and could have an Iron Bowl draft and take Hall at 39.

Derick's best attribute is his athleticism, and Ejiro Evero's defense is based around speed. Pairing Hall with Burns would be a nightmare for offensive lines in the NFC South for years.

Tank Bigsby - Pick 58, Dallas Cowboys

Jerry Jones has once again proven that he is an expert at the draft and took... lineman Mazi Smith in Round 1? Okay, so I guess when you own the team you can do what you want, plus he probably wasn't expecting Jahmyr Gibbs to go to the Lions like the rest of us.

Scouts however agreed that Tank Bigsby was one of the more pro-ready runningbacks of the class, and his physical build would make an excellent compliment to Tony Pollard's speed.

ROUND 3

Owen Pappoe - Pick 97, Washington Commanders

The Commanders have a defensive minded head coach in Ron Rivera, who showed his hand in round one that he's looking for playmakers for his unit. Will Levis could slide to them in Round 2, so if their main offensive need is met, then it's back to the defense. Emmanuel Forbes is an excellent corner, but premier defensive players will be gone by then. Besides being the fastest LB in the 2023 class (4.3 at the combine) scouts had good things to say about Owen's work ethic and size, Rivera will probably take a shot on the former Auburn standout.

Round 2 of the NFL Draft starts TONIGHT at 7 p.m., ET.  Stay tuned to see where our favorite Auburn players will go make a name for themselves on Sundays.
