Avery Jones gives update on Auburn's offensive line

In this story:
Auburn's offensive line has left a lot to be desired over the past few seasons.
When head coach Hugh Freeze took over the program, he immediately stressed the importance of improving the position. That included bringing in three intriguing transfers.
Among those transfers is Avery Jones. Jones is a veteran center who previously played for North Carolina and East Carolina. He was the No. 15 ranked player in the transfer portal according to 247Sports.
"It's just a historic SEC program," Jones said on his decision to come to Auburn. "I wanted to play in the SEC, I wanted to compete for a National Championship and I feel like Auburn was the best spot to do that."
Jones has already made his mark on the program as he is expected to be the starter at center for the Tigers.
"It's been really good," Jones said on how he fits in the program. "I kind of gelled in quickly with the guys, with the coaching staff and learning all the calls and plays."
With a lot of new faces, there is a lot of competition going on in the offensive line room. Jones believes that is a positive thing.
"Competition is always a good thing," Jones said. "It makes everybody better. If there wasn't any competition there would be a lull in the o-line room so I'm glad there's people that are here to compete to play and there's a lot of depth of people who can play so that's always a good thing."
This Auburn team looks a lot different from last season. Jones spoke about what he wants fans to know about the offensive line unit.
"Just that we're here to compete," Jones said. "We're here to play, we're here to flip the script, make a turnaround and put some respect on the O-line's name and the school of Auburn."
Jones and the rest of the Tigers do not have to wait much longer to show the college football world how much they have improved.
Auburn kicks off the 2023 campaign at home inside Jordan-Hare Stadium against the UMass Minutemen on September 2. The game is set to start at 2:30 p.m. CT and ESPN will have the broadcast.
