Auburn football has the fastest shrinking fanbase in college football
Apparently Auburn football has lost almost half of its fanbase in the past two years.
According to a data study performed by a sports marketing firm known as SBRnet, the Auburn Tigers currently have the fastest shrinking fanbase in all of college football - having lost 47% of their fans between the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
In total, 950,000 fans have been lost since the start of the Bryan Harsin tenure, per SBRnet.
The ten schools that lost the most from their fanbase over the last two seasons is as follows:
Auburn Tigers: -47% (945,599 fans)
Iowa Hawkeyes: -42% (544,136 fans)
Washington State Cougars: -41% (126,929 fans)
Stanford Cardinal: -40% (382,268 fans)
Kansas Jayhawks: -27% (284,624 fans)
Florida Gators: -26% (552,494 fans)
Notre Dame Fighting Irish: -25% (861,466 fans)
Mississippi State Bulldogs: -22% (114,579 fans)
Texas Longhorns: -22% (690,896 fans)
NC State Wolfpack: -22% (150,504 fans)
AL.com partnered with the Center for Sports Analytics at Samford University to analyze the data presented by SBRnet, noting that Alabama lost nearly 700,000 fans from 2021 to 2022. "All analysis is based on a nationwide survey of 6,330 sports fans in the U.S. conducted in January, 2023 by marketing research firm SBRnet," AL.com writer Ramsey Archibald notes.
