Takeaways from Auburn Basketball’s win vs Texas Southern

In this story:
Auburn defeated Texas Southern and on Friday night without the help of Johni Broome who was out with an knee bruise. Auburn had a difficult first half, but started the second half well cruising to a 16 point victory. Here are a few takeaways from tonights game.
Auburn has great potential, but needs to improve to win the SEC again
The Tigers coming off a brilliant game on Tuesday, but followed thag up tonight with a sloppy performance. So far Auburn has struggled with consistency. To be truly great, Auburn will need to find the leadership necessary to be consistent every night.
Zep Jasper is starting to get more aggressive
Last season Jasper started at point guard and largely played the role of facilitator. This year he has been asked to play shooting guard in what has been arguably the teams most awkward transition because he is reluctant to shoot. This is finally starting to change. Jasper is among the better shooters on this team, and took a step forward toward embracing his new role tonight.
Johni Broome was missed tonight
Auburn has been spoiled by spectator frontcourt play. Walker Kesslee and Johni Broome are phenomenal players. Auburn had neither tonight and it showed. Thankfully Broome’s injury does not sound serious and he should be back soon.
Jaylin had another quiet double digit night
We could be looking at a silent hero for the Tigers so far this year. Jaylin Williams started shooting the ball really well toward the end of last season, and he may be a glue guy for Auburn this year. This team is so deep that they can win despite multiple starters having off nights. This team has been inconsistent so far, but Williams may be an important staying presence this season.
