Auburn basketball loses a former five-star recruit to the transfer portal

Auburn is losing a guard to the transfer portal.

After the UConn Huskies took down the Purdue Boilermakers last night in the National Championship game, the 2023-24 college basketball season is officially over.

All teams, including Auburn, are starting to figure out who will stay and leave on their rosters as the staff looks to add players via the transfer portal.

Auburn has already lost two guards to the transfer portal as Tre Donaldson and KD Johnson put their names in the portal, but another has joined them as former five-star Aden Holloway announced he will enter the transfer portal.

Holloway came to Auburn as an elite shooter, but that didn't translate to the college game, as he only shot 30.2% on the season from deep. Standing only 6'1, Holloway also struggled to score around the rim. The freshman point guard averaged 7.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on the season for the Tigers. He started a handful of games and came off the bench some for the Auburn Tigers, but clearly, he feels his best interest is to look for a new school to call home.

Auburn has a five-star guard coming in as Tahaad Pettiford will likely be the Tiger's two guard next year. With Johnson, Donaldson, and Holloway all now in the portal, Coach Bruce Pearl will need to add some guards via the portal to handle the basketball and set up Pettifrod for scoring opportunities.

The coaching staff has reached out to a handful of talented guards in the transfer portal, so Coach Pearl will have no issues rebuilding this roster with veteran guards.
