Bears Fall to Brazil in Gold Medal Thriller, 77-73

Baylor comes up just short in closing seconds of GLOBL JAM finale

With the Baylor Bears down by three against Brazil with 14 seconds remaining in regulation of the GLOBL JAM Gold Medal game, coach Scott Drew called a timeout to draw up a game plan.

That plan almost worked too, as Keyonte George's would-be game-tying three spun around the rim, only to ring back around and out as Brazil grabbed the defensive rebound and was fouled by Team USA.

That was all it took as Brazil drilled one of two free throws and hung on to defeat the United States, 77-73, in a thriller in Toronto.

The game was neck-and-neck from the opening tipoff, and the teams were deadlocked at 72-72 with 44 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Drew was quick to tweet out congratulations to the team and fans, despite the heartbreaking defeat.

"Thank you Baylor Family for the support the last few days," Drew tweeted on Sunday, July 10. "It was a Great Experience for our team and I know this will do nothing but help our Team this Season."

Baylor men's basketball also sent out a social media message to the team letting them know how proud they are of the guys representing the United States while competing in Canada.

The Bears began pool play of the tournament with three straight losses: an 11-point loss to Italy and back-to-back two-point setbacks against Canada and Brazil.

However, Team USA was able to garner some redemption in the semifinals of the GLOBL JAM, knocking out top-seeded Canada, 93-87, to advance to the Gold Medal matchup against Brazil.

Coach Drew and the Bears tip off the 2022-23 regular season in November.
