No. 22 Boston College baseball takes on No. 6 North Carolina for the second matchup of its three-game road series in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Friday at 5 p.m. ET.

In Thursday’s contest, the Eagles (22-9, 9-4 Atlantic Coast) defeated the Tar Heels (25-5-1, 9-4) 6-1 thanks to stellar pitching from BC’s top ace, A.J. Colarusso.

The lefty hung up seven batters in 6.0 innings pitched, surrendering just five hits, three walks, and one unearned run in the process. Sophomore righty Cesar Gonzalez picked up the save with three innings of scoreless work, in which he struck out five batters.

On the offensive side, Jack Toomey, Luke Gallo, and Gunnar Johnson came up big, going a combined 7-for-12 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Julio Solier, Nick Wang, Carter Hendrickson, and Colin Larson additionally garnered an RBI each.

With the victory, the Eagles moved up to No. 22 in RPI rankings — they were No. 26 heading into the series. The Tar Heels, meanwhile, fell to No. 18 form No. 15 with the loss. The two squads are also now both tied for third in the ACC standings behind Florida State and Georgia Tech.

Friday's pitching matchup will feature lefty Tyler Mudd (2-2, 4.03 ERA) against North Carolina’s Jason DeCaro (5-1, 2.11 ERA).

Winners of 11 of its past 12 games, BC is one of the hottest teams in the country right now, and the players are embracing it.
