A group of BYU students were asked to change their 'Horns Down' shirts in the first half of BYU basketball's home win over the Longhorns. After the first media timeout in the first half, the nine students on the front row changed their shirts.

According to Jay Drew of the Deseret News, Texas' bench did not request that the shirts be removed. It was a decision made by BYU officials.

'Horns Down' has been in the news over the last several weeks, ever since Texas head coach Rodney Terry went on a postgame rant after a loss to UCF. Terry confronted UCF players in the postgame handshake line and described the gesture as "classless". Terry's comments went viral on social media.

"I always tell my guys, whether you win or lose, you win the right way, you lose the right way, you carry yourself the right way," Terry said. "You don't go through the handshake line, or prior to getting to the handshake line, and have guys putting the horns down. We don't do that.

"When you do those kinds of things, it looks very classless and like you were just hoping to win. We never go into games trying to hope to win, we go into games expecting to win. So we don't act like that. We don't jump up and down and act like we won a national championship. We sure don't step on anyone's home court and try to show them up in any way. We don't do that.

Terry was criticized just a few days later after the Longhorns' next game against Baylor, when Texas beat Baylor on a buzzer beater. Terry was seen jumping up and down and celebrating on the sideline after the shot, the same thing he said he wouldn't do just a few days prior.

After the game, BYU head coach Mark Pope was asked about the 'Horns Down' shirts in the student section. Pope described it as a "miscalculation" by a few "eager students" and concluded by saying it did not represent BYU fans. "That's not us," Pope said.
