On Monday, former BYU basketball signee Jake Wahlin flipped his commitment from BYU to Utah. Wahlin made the news official a few days after returning home from his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Wahlin committed to BYU in high school over Arizona State, San Diego State, and New Mexico among others. Wahlin prepped at Timpview High School just down the road from BYU's campus. Since he left on his mission, the Utes hired a new head coach in former Utah State head coach Craig Smith.
In high school, Wahlin was a long player who liked to attack the rim. Once he was around the rim, he could finish with both hands or find an open teammate. He is a capable ball handler that can take a rebound and push the ball up floor creating advantageous opportunities for himself and his teammates. Wahlin has the ability to shoot from the outside but he prefers to live around the rim. At 6'7 (listed in high school), he has room to add weight.
Wahlin's departure frees an extra scholarship that BYU can use in the transfer portal. The Cougars have already added three transfers in Aly Khalifa, Ques Glover, and Dawson Baker. With the last scholarship, the Cougars can choose to use it on a veteran player or a younger, more developmental prospect that they can build around in the future.
