A Famous Tweet About BYU Has Resurfaced Ahead of BYU-Cincinnati
A famous tweet from Cincinnati wide receiver Max Morrison is making the rounds on social media ahead of BYU's home game against Cincinnati. In 2015, Cincinnati traveled to Provo and lost to BYU 38-24. After the game, Morrison took to social media to express his frustration and poke fun at BYU's honor code.
"If losing isn't bad enough. I got knocked out by a 25 year old virgin who has never tasted Mountain Dew," Morrison wrote on Twitter. It didn't take long for Morrison to delete the tweet. While the original tweet no longer exists, the screenshot will live on forever.
In that game in 2015, Morrison finished with four receptions for 31 yards.
At the time of the tweet, BYU didn't sell caffeinated beverages on campus. That policy changed in 2017 when BYU dining services announced that caffeinated beverages would be sold on campus. To this day, BYU students are prohibited from sexual relationships outside of marriage. When Morrison sent that provocative tweet, it spread like wildfire.
BYU and Cincinnati have limited history in football. The two storied programs have faced each other only two times - once in 2015 and once in 2016. BYU won both games. Six years later, BYU and Cincinnati joined the Big 12 on the same day, marking the beginning of a relationship as conference peers.
On Friday, the two teams square off as conference foes for the first time. Given the limited on-field history between BYU and Cincinnati, there's limited animosity between the two fanbases. However, tweets like the one from Morrison can make up for lost time and spark a rivalry.
BYU and Cincinnati kickoff on Friday at 8:15 PM MDT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN. Both schools are looking for their first win in conference play.
