On Sunday, BYU senior running back Morgan Pyper announced that he is retiring from football. "My time here at BYU has been a dream come true," Pyper said on social media. "Ever since I was little I wanted to play here. Having that dream come to fruition was an incredible blessing and is something I will cherish for the rest of my life....BYU football will always mean the world to me. That being said, I am excited for this next stage of life and everything that comes with it."

Pyper appeared in 43 games and started one game for the Cougars from 2019-2022. He primarily played on defense and special teams. In total, he finished his BYU career with 50 total tackles. He set a career high with seven tackles in BYU's 2021 win at Utah State. He later tied that career high with seven tackles in BYU's 66-49 win over Virginia.

After last season, Pyper made a position change to running back. Pyper was a decorated running back at Hillcrest High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In 2015, Pyper was named the Eastern Idaho Player of the Year.

Luckily for BYU fans, the Cougars have a lot of depth at running back. The Cougars return 2022 contributors Hinckley Ropati and Miles Davis in 2023. They also bring in four scholarship newcomers in LJ Martin, Nukuluve Helu, Aidan Robbins, and Deion Smith.
