On Monday, former priority recruit and 2021 BYU signee John Henry Daley returned home from his mission. John Henry, the younger brother of BYU defensive end Michael Daley, signed with BYU over competing offers from Stanford, Washington State, UNLV, and Colorado State.

Daley was a defensive end that dominated at Lone Peak High School. Daley had 22 sacks as a senior which led the state of Utah. Daley was a consensus three-star recruit, and after his fantastic senior season, Daley went from a low three-star recruit to a high three-star recruit while earning an offer from Stanford along the way. He was one of the best pass rushers to ever play in the state of Utah.

In the time that Daley has been on his mission, BYU has turned over its defensive staff. The Cougars hired former Weber State head coach Jay Hill to coach the defense, and they hired Kelly Poppinga to coach defensive ends. Frankly, the new scheme is a much better fit for Daley's skillset.

John Henry won't play a major role in 2023. Instead, he will likely spend this season getting back into football shape. Once he is up to speed, he has the potential to be a star in Jay Hill's defense in 2024 and beyond.

At 6-4, John Henry has the length, physicality, and quickness to cause problems off the edge. Daley's game extends beyond his physical attributes - he uses a variety of pass rushing moves and a relentless motor to get to the Quarterback.
