UC Football Players Offer Time to Mentoring Program for Elementary Students

UC football is making a difference.

CINCINNATI — During the offseason, Bearcats football players have more time to make a positive impact in the community. That happened on Thursday as 20 players helped conduct the latest mentoring program at Oyler Elementary School.

The Hampton Mentoring Program has been making a difference for students at the Lower Price Hill school for decades. Figures from around the community volunteer to hang out with kids in the afternoon and provide a voice to lean on.

WKRC reports that the sessions run throughout the school day for first through fourth-grade students.

"Kids look forward to this," Bearcats defensive lineman Eric Phillips told WKRC. "We want to make their day special, so I’m happy about this. I'm happy I get the opportunity to do this."

Helping in the community is a key part of the Bearcats' impact as a program.

"I'm from Cincinnati," Bearcats defensive lineman Jowon Briggs told WKRC. "So it's definitely just about getting around the kids and bringing some guys from the team, and really just trying to give back and have fun while we're doing it."
