Dan Hoard: 'Real Coup' to Land 2023 Four-Star Recruit Rayvon Griffith

CINCINNATI — Rayvon Griffith is the first 2023 recruit Wes Miller and the Bearcats landed in this cycle—with him committing this past Sunday. Radio voice of the Bearcats Dan Hoard sees it as a similar situation to when Mick Cronin landed Yancy Gates in 2008.
"It's very similar in my opinion to when Mick Cronin got Yancy Gates to commit," Hoard said on the Locked On Bearcats podcast. "Because Rayvon Griffith is one of the best prospects to come out of the Cincinnati area in several years and Wes Miller, early in his tenure, convinced him to stay home. Mick was able to do that with Yancy. Got to a Sweet 16 with Yancy as part of the team, and anytime you can get a guy of that magnitude...To plant that flag in his home town, that is such a boost for the credibility of a coach early in his tenure.
"So for Wes to pull that off and his his staff, let's give his staff credit too. I know Andre Morgan worked that really hard. For Wes to pull that off this early in his tenure, I think is a real coup and it'll be interesting to see what players wind up becoming Bearcats because they saw this move one year into Wes Miller's tenure as Cincinnati head coach."
At the time, Yancy Gates (2008) was the highest-ranked Bearcats recruit of the 247Sports era and is still third on that list behind Lance Stephenson (2009) and Jermaine Lawrence (2013).
Griffith has a great chance to carry that baton from Gates as a breakthrough recruit for a newer head coach in Clifton, plus, he's eager to recruit more talent to come join him in 2023 and beyond.
