Recruiting Roundup: UC Offers Multiple Four-Star Talents, Including California Linebacker

The recruiting contact period re-opened this past Friday.

CINCINNATI — The football recruiting contact period is open once again, prompting a bevy of Recruiting Roundups. We start with another visitor this weekend that Cincinnati just re-offered.

Gavin Grover, a 2024 three-star tight end out of Olentangy (Ohio), is visiting UC.

According to 247Sports, Grover is the 504th-ranked player nationally and the 21st-ranked tight end in the class. He holds 13 offers from Akron, Kentucky, Iowa State, and Michigan State.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound behemoth won't wow with his athletic potential, but he is a fundamentally sound tight end that also wrecks havoc as a defensive end.

Grover doesn't have the top gear of a four or five-star tight end. Regardless, the junior boasts trusty hands and can block well in the open field.

Following Grover is an offer for four-star 2024 safety Brandon Jacob out of Evans (Florida).

According to 247Sports, Jacob is the 290th-ranked player nationally and the 24th-ranked safety. ESPN ranks him 289th nationally and 21st among safeties.

He holds 17 offers from schools like Colorado, Florida State, and Indiana.

Jacob is a problem on deep balls. The junior's ability to read a passer's eyes, track the ball and complete catches will have a major impact at the next level. He had a few impressive interceptions on film and returned multiple picks for touchdowns.

At 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, Jacob has a nice baseline frame to lean in the corner direction or stack more weight to play safety. He has the ball skills and speed to play outside though. Jacob saved multiple touchdowns as a trailing defender from behind

Moving on we have an offer for high 2024 four-star linebacker Kristopher Jones out of Mountain View (California).

According to 247Sports, Jones is the 85th-ranked player nationally and the ninth-ranked linebacker. ESPN ranks him 108th overall and 10th among linebackers.

Jones holds 24 offers from schools like Georgia, and Florida, plus, Scott Satterfield offered him while at Louisville.

The junior outside linebacker is one of the best blitzers I've seen on tape. He is so smart in that respect—hunting the perfect soft lanes to maximize sacks and pressure. His coverage skills are sound for the most part—he can drop back well and does a good job reading eyes in zone coverage.

The versatile 6-foot-2 weapon also brings a similar havoc method to special teams. Jones blocked multiple punts on film and can make an impact all over the field.

The defensive offers kept flowing—with one to 2024 four-star safety Jarvis Boatwright Jr. out of Clearwater (Florida).

According to 247Sports, Boatwright is the 340th-ranked player nationally and the 28th-ranked safety.

He holds 18 offers from schools like Duke, Florida, and Florida State.

Boatwright is a nasty tackler with the right on-field mindset to be an impact safety at a Power-Five school. Run fitting is his top skill right now—reading those plays quickly and working downhill to snuff out big gains.

Boatwright typically played in the box on film and occasionally split out to cover slot receivers. His motor runs extremely hot, helping him finish rough overall plays and hunt for fumbles.

Things close out with an offer to 2024 four-star running back Chauncey Bowens out of The Benjamin School.

According to 247Sports, Bowens is the 277th-ranked player nationally and the 23rd -ranked running back. ESPN has him ranked 191st overall and 16th among running backs.

Bowens holds 22 offers and has been committed to Florida since September. He posted over 1,100 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns last season.

The 5-foot-11, 219-pound bowling ball is a BEAST to bring down on every carry. Bowens is one of the more violent runners you'll find, exploding through holes on his first step while showcasing fantastic footwork balance.

He's run an 11.17-second 100-meter dash, and you feel it on tape. He has a higher gear than everyone else on the field and it means touchdowns whenever he gets an alley.

Bowens is a solid pass-catcher as well. He posted 10.3 yards per catch as a sophomore and showcases the same violence once the ball is in his hands on a screen, dump off, or swing pass.
