Tre Jones named to Cousy Award watch list

Second straight season Jones has received preseason recognition

Duke sophomore Tre Jones was named to the preseason watch list for The Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the best point guard in Division I men’s college basketball by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Jones averaged 9.4 ppg, 5.3 assists and 1.9 steals for Duke last season. He was second in the league in assists and third in steals.

It’s the second year in a row that Jones has been named to the watch list, which consists of 20 players. Only three others—Kansas’ Devon Dotson, Marquette’s Markus Howard and Michigan State’s Cassius Winston—are holdovers from last season’s watch list.

Three other ACC point guards were named to the watch list—Florida State’s Trent Forrest, North Carolina’s Cole Anthony and Virginia’s Kihei Clark.

The full watch list is below. The award has been given each of the last 16 seasons. A Duke Blue Devil has never won it.

Jones’ older brother Tyus Jones also named to the Cousy Award watch list in his only season at Duke in 2015. He was later named a finalist for the award at midseason, although Utah’s Delon Wright eventually won it.
