FSU Football's 2020 NFL Mock Draft Tracker, Heading into Rounds 4-7
The 2020 NFL Draft won't be the same this year. No green room celebrations, calls from coaches, and hugs with mom. No awkward embraces with the commissioner, no ill-fitting hats, and no pictures with jerseys. But hey, it's still happening, so that's something.
So Seminoles will again be waiting to hear their names called when the Draft opens next week on Thursday, April 23, and runs through Saturday, April 25. The first 'Nole off the board will be running back Cam Akers, but others are hoping to be selected as well.
Mock drafts are plentiful this time of year, so we thought we'd do you a solid and save you some clicks by compiling them here as they're released.
Saturday, April 25:
With Akers off the board, our attention now turns to a couple Seminole DBs: Stanford Samuels III and Levonta Taylor. They may or may not be drafted. They've been projected anywhere from the sixth round to being UFAs.
Friday, April 24:
The Draft's first round is in the books, and as we expected, no Seminoles were chosen. But the Sports Illustrated mothership still foresees a 'Nole being selected soon-- namely, Akers. In a new projection, SI thinks Akers will be taken by the Seattle Seahawks with the final pick of the second round, at choice No. 64, overall. But stay tuned, as a run on RBs seems likely, and Akers could come off the board sooner. You can stay updated with all the news concerning Seminoles here.
Thursday, April 23:
Here we go-- draft day is upon us, and not the entirely implausible Kevin Costner movie, either. The 2020 NFL Draft kicks off tonight, and a projection offered yesterday foresees several Seminoles hearing their names called-- just not tonight. WalterFootball.com has Akers going in the second round, with the 49th overall pick, to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A pair of 'Nole DBs are then forecasted to be chosen with back-to-back picks in the sixth round, with Stanford Samuels III going to the Buffalo Bills at No. 188, and the Jacksonville Jaguars selecting Levonta Taylor 189th.
Wednesday, April 22:
Late last night, Sporting News updated its mock draft, and it has Akers right around the over/under number I discussed with the SI mothership the other day. Specifically, he's projected to be taken early in the third round with the 71st overall selection and joining fellow Seminole Derwin James as a Los Angeles Charger.
Monday, April 20:
Okay so CBS is really demonstrating just how broad a range Akers has in the Draft. After a nearly 20-spot slide between Thursday and Saturday, he's now risen over 25 picks from Saturday to Monday. He's up to the 28th pick of the second round, selection No. 60 overall, and headed to the Baltimore Ravens.
Saturday, April 18:
CBS updated its mock draft, and Akers has slid almost 20 spots. He's now projected as a third-round choice of the Buffalo Bills, with the 86th overall selection.
Friday, April 17:
NFL.com released a new, seven-round mock draft, and it has FSU's Akers going even higher than the previous prediction from CBS. This forecast has the Seminole RB as a second-round selection of the Pittsburgh Steelers, with the 49th overall pick. It also has 'Nole DB Levonta Taylor as a sixth-round choice of the Arizona Cardinals, at selection No. 202.
Thursday, April 16:
CBS issued a complete, seven-round mock draft today, and it foresees Akers and defensive back Stanford Samuels III remaining teammates. That simulation has the Detroit Lions drafting Akers with the first of four third-round picks, at No. 67 overall. But as I discussed recently, our SI sister site covering the Lions isn't necessarily the biggest fan of Akers heading to Motown.
And then Samuels is projected as Detroit's seventh-round choice-- selection No. 235, via a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. Click here to check out the complete CBS Mock draft.
Other options that have been mentioned in mock drafts before are DB Levonta Taylor and receiver Keith Gavin, but those Seminoles are not included in this mock draft. Only Akers and Samuels were invited to the NFL Combine, and you can review their performances here. FSU's annual Pro Day was canceled due to health concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
