Florida State Boasts 2 Of College Football's Top Freaks Entering 2026

The 2026 college football season is closing in with the Florida State Seminoles fewer than three weeks away from taking the field against New Mexico State.

Each year, the preseason is a time for excitement as programs around the country remain cautiously optimistic. A major milestone that lets every fan know that the action is right around the corner is the annual release of Bruce Feldman's 'Freaks List'.

The list ranks the top 101 freaks in the sport, many of whom have athletic traits and skills that are hard to quantify on paper.

For the fourth straight year, a pair of Florida State standouts made the cut.

Feldman included two Seminoles on his latest 'Freaks' list.

Redshirt sophomore Micahi Danzy was already on his radar last year, coming in at No. 68 before the 2025 season. Danzy jumped up in the rankings this time around, leaping all the way to No. 12.

Danzy clocks out at over 23 miles per hour, and can clean 335 pounds in the weight room, which is a big reason he's so explosive on the field.

"Danzy, who came in at about 185 pounds on his 6-1 frame in 2024, is now around 200 pounds," Feldman wrote. "This summer, he cleaned 335 pounds. Danzy’s also one of the top sprinters in college sports as an elite 400-meter man."

"Danzy hits a 23 mph on Catapult, and Noles coaches point out that he does it in football situations, not speed work," Feldman added. "He’s really strong too."

Feldman was ahead of the curve a season ago when Danzy became one of Florida State's breakout stars. He recorded 27 receptions for 571 yards and 6 touchdowns, leading the ACC and ranking fourth in the FBS with 21.2 yards per reception. Danzy was also first in the country with six 50-yard plays.

The Seminoles have aspirations of Danzy becoming a more complete wide receiver in 2026, and he's been working to unlock the next level of his game.

Sophomore defensive lineman Mandrell Desir was the other Seminole to catch Feldman's attention, slotting in at No. 57.

Desir bulked up to 270 pounds this offseason. As a true freshman, he was the runner-up for the ACC Defensive Newcomer of the Year, and earned Freshman All-American honors.

Notably, Desir can run over 20 miles per hour, bench more than 400 pounds, and squat over 500 pounds. That's freaky.

"A three-star recruit from Miami, Desir had a terrific freshman season with 30 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, 6.5 sacks and a forced fumble," Feldman wrote. "Only Noles legend Ron Simmons and future first-rounder Brian Burns had more sacks as true freshmen."

"The 6-4, 270-pound Desir, whose twin brother Darryll is also an FSU D-lineman (and a little smaller), bench pressed 405 pounds this offseason and squatted 515," Feldman continued. "Desir also consistently hits 20.2 mph on the GPS."

Desir is competing for a starting role on the interior of the defense but will play a ton no matter what.

Florida State will face 16 freaks this fall, including Miami offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell (No. 4), Florida EDGE Jayden Woods (No. 5), Alabama offensive tackle Jackson Lloyd (No. 13), Central Arkansas defensive tackle Trevion Traylor (No. 15), NC State running back Jayden “Duke” Scott (No. 18), and Clemson linebacker Sammy Brown (No. 20).
