Florida State updated its roster on Monday to begin the final week prior to the team taking the field for fall camp.

Outside of providing insight on the Seminoles that have made weight changes and at least one player who is switching numbers (Jaylen Early is now listed as No. 54), the updates also unveiled a new addition to the special team's unit.

FSU has added a transfer from Ohio State to its 2023 roster in redshirt sophomore long snapper Mason Arnold, who spent the past two seasons with the Buckeyes. He redshirted in 2021 but ended up starting seven games for the program last season, including the CFP semifinal defeat against eventual national champion Georgia.

The Florida native spent his first three seasons at the prep level at Jesuit High School where also wrestled. He finished second in the 2A state championship at 220 pounds as a sophomore and was the runner-up in the heavyweight division the following year. Arnold moved to Carrollwood High School for his senior season and won the 1A state championship at 220 pounds to conclude an undefeated year.

The 6-foot, 215-pound long snapper was rated as the No. 6 LS in the 2021 class by Kornblue Kicking. It's expected that he'll have three years of eligibility remaining.

Though long snappers get lost in the shuffle with a role that flies under the radar, it's an extremely important job. After all, you only notice them whenever a mistake is made.

The Seminoles are relatively set at the position entering the 2023 season. FSU is returning redshirt senior James Rosenberry Jr, who has started at long snapper for the past two years. Rosenberry Jr. handled punts and field goals last season. He was elevated on scholarship earlier this year.

Arnold is still an addition with high-level experience who could make an impact in Tallahassee in the future. He joins a room that also includes true freshman Peyton Naylor alongside Rosenberry Jr. Naylor signed with the Seminoles as a preferred walk-on in the 2023 class and was a local product out of Maclay High School.
