Florida State Defensive Tackle Fabien Lovett Reflects On Emotional Victory Against LSU
Throughout fall camp and the first practice of game week, the Florida State defense has been all business on the field. Whether it’s the defensive backs, linebackers, or the defensive line, the group of players has been a well-oiled machine for the last month, now going into Sunday’s game against LSU.

One key component of the Florida State defense is defensive lineman Fabien Lovett Sr., who has been with the Seminoles since 2020 after transferring from Mississippi State. Lovett was a beast on the field in last year’s season opener against the Tigers. He only finished with two tackles but his impact was felt beyond the statsheet.
However, Lovett was injured during the final drive of the game as LSU tried to tie up the contest. A leader on and off the field, Lovett recalled trying to get the defense motivated once he knew he was unable to finish the game.
“Right before the blocked field goal, I was like “I need y’all to do this. We got to win,” Lovett said.
The Seminoles must've listened as safety Shyheim Brown came flying in to block the extra point. The moment sent the Caesars Dome into an uproar as New Orleans was painted garnet and gold.
A lot has happened in the last year, the Seminoles had their first winning season since 2017 and additionally dominated the transfer portal with additions like Keon Coleman, Jaheim Bell, Fentrell Cypress II, and Braden Fiske.
Fiske and Lovett have been working closely together in practice throughout the offseason, and despite admitting to not knowing much about the Western Michigan transfer, the veteran said he's been one of the hardest workers throughout the offseason.
“Great player, great person, on and off the field,” Lovett said. “He’s a ballplayer, he’s got a high motor, he’s gonna dominate and give everything he can every play.”
Lovett noted that the biggest strength this defensive line has is “dominating the guy in front of us, dominating the run, and stopping the run.” That is exactly what they have been doing in practice, putting a halt to a stacked offense composed of returners like Jordan Travis, Johnny Wilson, and Trey Benson.
Lovett emphasized that good teams are built off the field as much as on the field. He added that he talks as much as he can to try and build relationships with players, especially the younger guys.
“Great teams are led by the players, not the coaches.” Said Lovett. “You can even ask the freshmen that come in, I try to talk to them and build those bonds with them.”
Lovett has taken on a leadership role as he is entering his fourth year as a Seminole and is entering his third consecutive year as a starter and major playmaker for the 'Noles.
His presence will be seen on the field as No. 0 and the Seminoles take on the LSU Tigers on Sunday September 3rd at 7:30 PM ET in Orlando at Camping World Stadium.
