Former FSU Athletics Broadcasting Legend Honored With Hall Of Fame Induction

The Hall of Fame induction will take place later this year.

The resume of a legend in the sports broadcasting world is continuing to grow late into his career.

Gene Deckerhoff spent nearly 50 years as the 'Voice of the Seminoles' and called football games from early in Bobby Bowden's tenure to the beginning of the Mike Norvell Era from 1979-2022. Still in his duties as the radio play-by-play announcer for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he's been bestowed with another special honor.

Deckerhoff is one of nine key figures around the state who will be inducted in the inaugural class of the Florida Broadcasters Hall of Fame. The nine honorees were "chosen based on their distinguished professional career directly tied to Florida. Throughout their careers, Hall of Fame inductees have exemplified integrity, innovation, achievement, leadership, and contributions to the industry" per the FAB. A ceremony will be held on June 27 in Palm Beach to celebrate the honor.

The Jacksonville native called over 500 games at Florida State, including all three of the program's national titles. He covered the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seminoles at the same time for 33 years. Deckerhoff was inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in 2022 and the Florida State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.

While he's been succeeded by Jeff Culhane over the last few years, Florida State fans will always remember Deckerhoff's legendary calls.

This is just another feather in the cap for one of the top broadcasters to ever come through the sporting world.
