Former FSU Football Star Jordan Travis Making Tremendous Progress As He Eyes Return

The former Seminole is expected to be fully cleared to return in the next couple of weeks.

When former Florida State star quarterback Jordan Travis was seriously injured in November, it was disappointing for a myriad of reasons. Not only was Travis blamed for the Seminoles being snubbed from the College Football Playoff while having his record-setting career cut short against a meaningless opponent but it also threw his NFL prospects into limbo.

The timing of the injury meant that Travis would be forced to focus on rehabbing at the beginning of the year rather than taking the field at the East-West Shrine Bowl to boost his stock. He was also forced to watch from the sideline at the NFL Combine as many of his former teammates shined in Indianapolis.

Throughout the last couple of months, Travis has incrementally progressed in his recovery. He recently was able to shed the boot from his ankle and is beginning to go through more intensive exercises. It sounds like his effort and drive could have him back on the field sooner than expected.

On Thursday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Travis is expected to be fully cleared by doctors at some point in April. That would be big news with the NFL Draft falling in the same month and OTAs arriving shortly thereafter.

The timeline is even more optimistic than what Travis revealed while speaking to the media at the combine. At the time, he noted that he 'should be ready' by May or June. An April return means he's ahead of schedule and would be back in action less than six months after his gruesome ankle injury.

"I got out of my boot about a week ago so it's pretty special," Travis said last week. "I'm so thankful to wake up every single day and look down at my shoes - I'm so grateful. It's been a journey for sure and my family has helped me get through it. I should be ready by May - that's my goal - May, June, so I'm ready for it."

Travis met with a large contingent of NFL teams at the Shrine Bowl and at the combine. It's unclear if he'll be able to do anything physically at Florida State's upcoming Pro Day but he is receiving legitimate interest after what he did throughout his career in Tallahassee.

The Florida native ended his time with the Seminoles as the all-time leader in total touchdowns (98), total yards of offense (10,665 yards), rushing yards by a QB (1,950) yards, and QB rushing touchdowns (31). He's the only player in program history to be ranked in the top 10 on the Seminoles' career passing touchdowns and rushing touchdowns lists.

Travis finished his time in garnet and gold with 28 victories as the starting quarterback, tied for No. 2 on the all-time list with Chris Rix. He guided the Seminoles to back-to-back double-digit win campaigns for the first time since 2015-16 and helped the program climb out of one of the worst stretches in FSU history.

During his college career, Travis appeared in 49 games, with 38 starts, and completed 637/1,027 passes for 8,715 yards with 66 touchdowns to 20 interceptions. He also rushed 417 times for 1,950 yards with 31 more scores while adding three catches for 11 yards and a touchdown.
