Florida State's slate of spring practices has provided the coaching staff a unique opportunity to focus on building the team while also getting recruits through the door to watch the Seminoles in action. Over the weekend, a fair amount of prospects flocked to Tallahassee to observe FSU's first scrimmage of the spring.

That included a group out of Louisiana that was headlined by three-star tight end Hubert Caliste Jr. A priority target for the program, Saturday marked Caliste's fourth trip to Florida State since late October.

"I really enjoyed it this time," Caliste said to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis. "We talked a lot more, met new guys, and spent a lot of time with coach DJ Daniels."

The scrimmage was held inside Doak Campbell Stadium and recruits were able to watch the action from the sideline. Caliste enjoyed watching the team compete.

"Watching the scrimmage, I learned a lot of new thing," Caliste said. "I think it will help my game, the things I watched so it meant a lot to me."

Obviously, the Lousiana native kept a close eye on tight ends coach Chris Thomsen and his position group. He noticed that redshirt junior Markeston Douglas and a couple of other players were getting after it.

"Coach Thomsen is doing his job very well," Caliste said. "Tight ends had a big day, Markeston got a couple of passes, and a big tight end scored today."

Prior to the conclusion of the visit, Caliste and his group met with head coach Mike Norvell. He understands that he'll have to work if he chooses the Seminoles.

"We talked to coach Norvell as a group so he really just touched up on the same things from last time," Caliste said. "He tells everybody that he wants to coach the same thing. If you don't want to work, don't come to Florida State."

At this point of his recruitment, Florida State is the 'top choice' for Caliste. The way that the coaching staff has taken the time to develop a relationship with him has stood out compared to other schools. Plus, they were one of the first schools to offer him a scholarship.

"I've been here at FSU. They welcome me, take me in with open arms, feel like family," Caliste said. "The biggest thing to me is they stay in touch. We talk almost every day, we stay in touch. I talk to most of the coaching staff, so I really have a relationship."

Outside of the Seminoles, programs such as Indiana and Houston are standing out to Caliste. He plans to visit the Cougars on April 7 and 'might' be back at Florida State for the Spring Showcase on April 15.

Caliste is looking to announce a commitment prior to the beginning of his senior season.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end is regarded as the No. 917 overall prospect, the No. 39 TE and the No. 19 recruit in the state of Louisiana in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
