Three-Star DT Jamorie Flagg returns to Florida State for first visit since December pledge

In this story:
Florida State landed a commitment from three-star defensive tackle Jamorie Flagg back in December. Flagg returned to Tallahassee for the first time since his initial pledge over the weekend alongside his mother. It was important for him to get back around the coaches and campus in person to show his mom what it's like.

"Very important because I wanted to bring my mom up here too," Flagg said to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis. "So she could see what type of guys there is that I'm going to be around my next four years in college."
"I just love it here. I ain't going to lie," Flagg continued. "I love this school. It's a great school, great campus, great community. They welcomed me with open arms. When I get up here I'm going to be the best that I can be."
The trip gave Flagg an opportunity to spend a lot of time around head coach Mike Norvell, linebackers coach Randy Shannon, defensive line coach Odell Haggins, and director of high school relations, Ryan Bartow. Haggins will be Flagg's position coach at the next level while Shannon and Bartow have been two of his primary recruiters.
Flagg likes how they don't focus on what's going on between the lines. That's something that's stood out to him compared to other schools that are recruiting him.
"It was great. They treat me like family, I love it here," Flagg said. "Coach Randy Shannon, he's a great recruiter. Coach Norvell, this what I love the most about the school and coach Norvell as a person. It's not only about the football aspect with him, it's more about the academics."
"Like the patch on the wall, that you wear on the jersey, like he said, on the field, you got a helmet on so they don't really see your face but when you got the scholar patch on, they can tell you're a scholar on and off the field," Flagg continued. "That's what stood out to me the most on my visit. Coach Ryan Bartow, he's a great dude. Me and my family really loved the visit. My mom, they treated her like family, it's like home to her too so I love it here."
After initially arriving on Friday, Flagg got an opportunity to watch Florida State scrimmage inside Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday. He kept a close eye on coach Haggins as well as the defensive line. There were a couple of things that caught his attention.
"I love the way that coach Odell brings that fire with his group," Flagg said. "Watching them practice at the scrimmage, you know, you're going to make mistakes but he uplifts them and they get after it. A couple of guys like Patrick Payton, I saw him get after it today. Lamont Green Jr, the freshman from Gulliver, a couple of guys that I seen."
The Florida native is actually a cousin of redshirt sophomore defensive end Patrick Payton. That relationship has provided Flagg with a unique view into how things work at Florida State. After experiencing it for himself, Flagg said that everything Payton told him was true.
"He told me great things about coach Odell. coach Shannon, and just about the coaching staff but I couldn't just take his word for it I had to come see it myself," Flagg said. "Everything he said stood out and it was true. I just like the way that the coaching staff is and it's a great atmosphere."
One of the best parts of the visit for Flagg was spending more time around coach Norvell. They got to know one another better as people, with Flagg even sharing his talents as a chef.
"I'm just getting to know him better as a person," Flagg said. "Yeah we talk, we communicate but we get to talk more about school, what I want to major in, and my hobbies outside of football. See, I enjoy cooking, that's my thing. Just little things, just building a stronger bond with the coaching."
Florida State's 2024 class already holds nine verbal commitments prior to the conclusion of March. Flagg is building a relationship with the other members of the group and they've been working together to bring additional talent to Tallahassee.
"We've got a good relationship. Me and Kam Davis, we be texting. We see other guys, two Miami guys we're looking at right now from Chaminade-Madonna. We're looking at them," Flagg said. "We've got a group chat with the class of 2024's that are committed and we've got a list of guys that we should reach out to that could come up here, help us be great, and go to the national championship."
Flagg plans to return to Florida State in the summer and for a couple of games in the fall. His official visit will likely take place in late December prior to the Early Signing Period. Flagg noted that he will continue to take trips to other schools, with a visit to Penn State in the works.
With that being said, he feels strongly about his pledge to the Seminoles at this point of his recruitment.
"I'm locked in. I'm locked in with FSU right now," Flagg claimed.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound is regarded as the No. 803 overall prospect, the No. 78 DL, and the No. 106 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
