Georgia Basketball Will Travel to Wake Forest for 2nd NIT Round

The men's Georgia basketball team learned they will travel to Wake Forest for the second round of the NIT tournament.

The men's Georgia basketball team learned they will travel to Wake Forest for the second round of the NIT tournament.

After narrowly beating Xavier on Tuesday at home during the first round of the NIT tournament, the Bulldogs found out late Wednesday night who their next opponent will be and where. Georgia will travel to Wake Forest for a Sunday afternoon game after the Demon Deacons beat App State.

This will be the second time that Georgia and Wake Forest will have met this season as the two programs faced one another back in November towards the beginning of the season. Head coach Mike White and the Bulldogs managed to squeak out a win at home the first time and now will attempt to do the same on the road.

Wake Forest was tabbed as a no. 1 seed for the NIT tournament while the Bulldogs slid in at no. 4. The winner of this game will then play the winner of the Virginia Tech vs Ohio State matchup, which will be played on Saturday.

Coach White and his team struggled late in the season after coming out of the gates blazing hot. A first-round SEC tournament win and another late regular-season win against Vanderbilt and Ole Miss helped set themselves up for a postseason bid - their first one since 2017.

It may not be the coveted March Madness tournament that every team clamors for, but this is still a step in the right direction for Coach White and the program. Considering where this team was when White took over and the steps they have made in just two seasons is worth celebrating. And if they can manage to make a deep push into the NIT tournament, that would be an even better sign of things to come for the Georgia basketball program.
