Kirby Smart Tabs Several Standouts From Scrimmage for Georgia Football

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart talks about the spring standouts following their first scrimmage of the spring period.

The University of Georgia football program is working towards the tail end of spring practice in Athens. With now 10 of the 15 allotted practices in the books, head coach Kirby Smart and his coaching staff have had ample opportunity to survery their roster, especially after Saturday's first scrimmage.

Kirby Smart spoke with the media on Tuesday about the first scrimmage and pointed to a few players that have stood out this spring to him.

QB, Gunner Stockton:
"Gunner has done a good job. I have seen growth in Gunner. I think he had a couple mistakes in the scrimmage, but he also played with much more consistency. I have seen this progression with Gunner where he is getting better each and every practice," Said Smart. "The bowl practices were great for him. The ability to play in that bowl game was awesome for him. He has gotten better. He is getting a feel for our system. He is a really good athlete. He has, every now and then, a mistake that you can't have at that position. The good thing for him, you can ask him after the play, I always ask him, 'What did you see? What was the coverage?' He always gives the right answer. He is seeing the right things. He has to continue to develop and grow. That is a hard position to play."

WR, Dominic Lovett:
"So far this spring, I would say Dom has had a very good spring. He’s so much more confident in the offense, I think Carson has so much more confidence in him, they’re on the same wavelength. There’s been days Dom has been really dominant out there," said Smart. Lovett is entering his second season with the Bulldogs and has received tremendous praise this spring from not only coach Smart but his teammates as well. It appears there's some real comfort between Carson Beck and Lovett, something that should yield results this fall.

OC, Jared Wilson:
"I'm excited for the world to see this guy." That was head coach Kirby Smart at the very beggining of spring practice talking about his new starting center, Jared Wilson. It's rare you hear Kirby Smart anoint a player as potentially something worth this type of excitement, but Wilson has certainly earned it in the shadows during his first three years at Georgia. Smart has seen Wilson's atheltic ability on display behind closed doors at practice for quite some time and there's excitement about what's to come for the new head of the offensive line.
