Los Angeles Chargers GM Says Jamaree Salyer 'Saved us this year'

Los Angeles Chargers GM Tom Telesco says that former Georgia offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer "saved us this year."

The Super Bowl is a little over a week out from being played which means that the majority of the teams around the league have already wrapped up their 2022 seasons. The Georgia Bulldogs produced 15 draft picks last season, many of which had a major impact in their first season as a professional.

Some players that made a big splash in their first year were wide receiver George Pickens, who had a big season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Linebacker Quay Walker and defensive lineman Jordan Davis were both named to the Pro Football Writers of America all-rookie team. Another player who had a huge first season was offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer, who stepped up in a time of need for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Salyer had an interesting college career in Athens, Georgia. He floated all around the offensive line as he played right tackle, left guard and then played left tackle for the majority of his final year at Georgia. He would then be picked up by the Chargers in the sixth round of the 2022 draft by the Chargers. Salyer would go on to start in 14 games as a rookie and was stellar in his first year.

The Chargers' general manager, Tom Telesco, went on to say that Salyer, "saved us this year." Not many sixth-round picks get the opportunity to make an impact in their first year, but Salyer made the most of his chances and now looks to be a player that will be around the league for a while.

While Salyer's success at the NFL level might have come as a surprise to some, it certainly did not to Georgia fans. During his final season as a Bulldog, Salyer did not surrender a single sack. He was also named a Walter Camp second-team All-American and made the SEC coaches All-SEC team as well.

There is tremendous value in having a player like Salyer on your roster who has experience playing so many different positions up front. The Chargers needed Salyer to help fill a void this season, and due to his impressive play, he has now made a name for himself as a professional football player.
