Questions Still Left to Answer this Spring for Georgia

We are seven practices through spring football at Georgia and there's been plenty of learning about 2024, but what questions do we still have about this team?

College Football programs are allotted fifteen practices and one intrasquad scrimmage during the spring practice portion of their offseason regimen. This allows for early enrollees and transfer portal players to get acclimated to their new homes as well as allows for the coaching staff to get a feel for their roster — What holes need to be filled, where the roster must improve, who's going to win or lose position battles. It's undoubtedly an invaluable roster evaluation period for these football programs.

The preseason No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs are currently seven practices into their spring sessions and we still have a few questions about this roster.

Questions Still Left to Answer for Georgia Football

1. Who's going to win out at STAR and Corner?
It was the biggest question mark on this roster entering spring practice and the same remains just seven practices in. One thing is for certain, they have ample options. Sophomore Joenel Aguero has all of the physical traits in the world, but has struggled at times this spring, enough to make this room feel like an open battle at times. Kyron Jones is getting reps at the STAR, JaCorey Thomas is now cross-training at STAR and sources have even indicated that Daylen Everette could potentially get some nickel snaps as well. It started as a position that seemed to be held down by Joenel Aguero, which has since perhaps opened up a bit due to competition. The battle at corner will be impacted by the answer at STAR as well. Smart mentioned on Tuesday, "If we have four good corners, three of them will play corner and one can play star."

2. Who's Going to Play Safety with Malaki?
It's been a fascinating safety room this spring with the only known starter, Malaki Starks, being a limited participant, which has opened the door for quite a bit of opportunity for a variety of names vying for playing time this fall. Dan Jackson, David Daniel, and JaCorey Thomas are obviously the veterans in the group who have been around the program for quite some time. At the same time, newcomers like KJ Bolden and Jake Pope are having to play a bit of catch-up. Dan Jackson appears to be the leader in the clubhouse right about now, but it's not a matter of if KJ Bolden gets on the field next to Malaki Starks this fall, however. Based on all indications coming out of camp, it's a matter of when KJ Bolden gets on the field with Malaki Starks this fall.

3. Will the Reality Meet the Hype?
I've covered this team for five seasons now, it's not a long time, but it's a long enough sample size to know that Georgia has allows seemed to have talent at the wide receiver position. Every offseason there's plenty to talk about in terms of options at receiver, though there's not quite the production in the fall. They've relied on the portal heavily over the last two seasons — take five players out of the transfer portal in two cycles at receiver. Colbie Young has been all the rave this spring being a big-bodied target that is a tremendous mismatch, particularly in the redzone. However, it's been Dillon Bell who appears to be the potential true No. 1 receiver that Georgia has been searching for for some time now.
