Four Georgia Tech Football Players Who Could Emerge As Stars After Fall Camp

In this story:
Fall camp is nearing an end for the Yellow Jackets, with their second fall scrimmage coming up. Let’s take a look at four players who could be stars for Georgia Tech at the conclusion of fall camp.
1. Kevin Roche Jr
He’s been a popular name in the spring and fall because of his performance. It’s been at a high level and continued to garner attention. You can’t teach his 6’9 frame and ability to catch the ball and create mismatches. The area where he'll do a lot of damage is the red zone. He gives the Yellow Jackets something they haven’t had at the position and a reliable target that can win in single or double coverage.
“I was big on the red zone, like ran a lot of goes in high school, and um it was something that I wish I could have done last season and um at least contributed in some way. But um this year now, it's a big focus, and I mean I love getting the ball in the red zone. I think like if I was a coach, I would do the same thing. I'm just excited for those opportunities that I'm going to get. Coach Godsey, like I said, coming in um and giving me the chance and allowing me to do those things, like I love it. It's really big for me,” said Roche Jr
You will be hearing about Roche Jr quite a bit this upcoming season.
2. Alberto Mendoza
Mendoza has turned heads in fall camp with his processing, approach, work ethic, and intellect. He has been a topic of conversation among teammates and the coaching staff with how intellectual he is and has drawn comparisons to NFL quarterbacks with his day-to-day approach to the game. I think for the Yellow Jackets, he could easily become a breakout star and one that leads the Yellow Jackets to new heights.
“I mean, we're trying to create mismatches, right? Coach Godsey talks about we're striving for perfection every day, and we are. And, well, how can we be perfect? Well, part of that onus is put on the quarterback because we're not just going to go up to the line and call a play. I call it call it and haul it. We're not going to do that. We're going to put the onus on the quarterback to get us into a good play. So, you know, we could go through the course of a game and have a check with 50% of our plays, right, to get us into the right play. Well, that takes a lot of studying. You've got to know what you're looking at,” said Mendoza.
If Mendoza can play at a high level, Georgia Tech could be a playoff contender.
3. Daiquan White
Some of the questions have been who will be the corner opposite of former Alabama cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe. While nothing has been announced, it seems like a cornerback is beginning to stand out and separate himself from the pack. Senior Daiquan White has been impressive in fall camp after a stellar spring and has continued to take a big step forward. The game is slowing down for him, and things are clicking at the most important time.
“I would say this spring, uh, this spring it kind of clicked for me. Just having a new defensive coordinator, um, just having to learn a lot of things, and you know me being an older guy I had to kind of lead the way for the younger guys that's behind me. So it kind of clicked in, and I just had to learn more, learn a lot more about football, learn a lot more about formations and offensive things so I could play faster,” said White.
His name has been buzzing, and he could have a key role this year for the Yellow Jackets.
4. Isaiah Fuhrmann
Fuhrmann is finally healthy and beginning to come on at the right time for the Yellow Jackets and was productive in camp. There was some concern here after he missed the majority of the spring, but he has made an impact and a difference as a wideout for Georgia Tech. It has been much needed, especially with a new-look wide receiver corps that only returned one significant contributor from a season ago in Jordan Allen.
Fuhrmann came over from Elon after a big season at his last stop. Now he is practicing every day and improving. He should be able to be a difference-maker for the Yellow Jackets in the fall and a weapon in the passing attack.
"I think the biggest thing with Zay was making sure that he could practice every day. You know, that was the goal that we set for him. You know, he missed all of spring pretty much. And there's some growing pains with him, right, in terms of getting in shape and getting in football shape. But from a mental standpoint, like Zay's sharp. He's going to be sharp,” said wide receivers coach Jafar Williams.
