Ryan Nembhard breaks Gonzaga's single-season record for assists

Nembhard had 12 assists vs. Kansas to set the record

SALT LAKE CITY - Gonzaga has produced some incredible point guards over the years, and Ryan Nembhard just put his name near the top of that list.

Nembhard, who orchestrated Gonzaga's remarkably efficient offense all season, picked apart Kansas on Saturday with 12 assists to lead the Zags to an 89-68 victory. Nembhard now has 235 assists this season, breaking Gonzaga's single-season record previously held by Josh Perkins (234).

Nembhard was masterful against the Jayhawks, reading pick-and-roll coverages perfectly in the second half as the Zags outscored Kansas 46-24. After the game, Gonzaga coach Mark Few heaped praise on his point guard.

"I love that family,” Few said of Nembhard and his older brother, Andrew. “That family has been a part of this whole run. You think of Andrew and Ryan, the whole family. I told him he was nuts but a good kind of nuts."

Nembhard is averaging 12.8 points and 6.8 assists for Gonzaga, a year after averaging 12.1 points and 4.8 assists for Creighton.
