Indiana's Tibbitts, Taylor Earn Weekly Big Ten Baseball Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It was a big weekend for a pair of young Indiana sluggers.
Sophomore first baseman Brock Tibbitts was named Big Ten Player of the Week, and freshman outfielder Devin Taylor shared Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors with Maryland pitcher Kyle McCoy.
Tibbitts went 8-for-14 at the plate with eight runs, seven RBI, two doubles, two walks and one home run in four games this week. A New Albany, Ohio native, Tibbitts is the first Indiana hitter to earn this honor since Cole Barr in 2021.
During the Hoosiers' mid-week game against Indiana State, Tibbitts scored four runs across five plate appearances. Against Ohio State, he scored Indiana's first run of Big Ten play with a solo home run in the second inning on Saturday, then drove in three more runs throughout the game.

Tibbitts stayed hot in game two of the weekend series, again igniting an Indiana rally in the third inning with a two-RBI double. He didn't record a hit during the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, but Tibbitts scored an insurance run in the eighth inning of Indiana's 7-5 win.
From La Salle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, Taylor has made an immediate impact in his first season as a Hoosier. Taylor went 5-for-13 at the plate with eight RBI, five runs, five walks and a home run in four games.
In his first Big Ten game on Saturday, Taylor roped a two-RBI single through the right side to give Indiana its first lead of the game. In game three, he helped the Hoosiers jump out to an early 3-0 lead with a two-run home run in the third inning. After a big weekend, Taylor is second among Hoosiers with a .404 batting average, and Tibbitts is fourth at .322.
